So Mcpherson's the new Secretary of State
and to be honest, I'm pretty happy about it. I had no delusions that Schwarzenegger would appoint a Democrat.

But if it has to be a Republican, Mcpherson's a pretty good one. I've lived in his district for 7 years - one of the most liberal places in the country - and he's considered a pretty good guy.

I've never voted for him, but he's a very moderate guy and known for his integrity.

I think if the Republicans really were trying to find a guy to help them steal all our elections, they wouldn't have picked Mcpherson.

6. That's what I'm saying...
he was elected twice, I believe, to the state assembly, then twice to the Senate. We're the second-most liberal county in California, behind San Francisco. We don't elect wingnuts.

12. I'm talking to another DU member from this area and we are
seriously considering approaching McPherson. I'm not sure about the timing, though. His son's murder trial is underway...I'm looking into the timeframe on it. This must be a heartwrenching time for his family. We are going to take that into consideration before we proceed.

19. SON'S MURDER TRIAL!!!!!!
and no one thinks he needs a BIG FAVOR?

I agree with the spirit of what you said Dookus, a I got 100% positives from everyone I spoke to in his district.

But I trust no one at the moment because of what's on the table.
Everything --everything--- so far on the neocon punch list has gone according to plan

Things left to do ---
*Redistrict to attain republican majority in state Senate, cement republican majority in National congress.

* Install BBV, deliver California to the REDs.

*Assure 5th largest economy in the world is looted beyond recognition by National level neocons.

*Privatize parkland in CA----we're running out of developable land.

WAY Too much at stake

13. McPherson is there as a caretaker.
My personal opinion is that Arnold has much more on his plate than he can handle. He chose McPherson as Secretary of State to calm things down in that office. Arnold doesn't need any more problems.

To Arnold, the greatest advantage of selecting McPherson is that if McPherson chooses not to run in the next election it won't reflect badly on Arnold. McPherson can simply step aside and "retire" if he finds he cannot work with Arnold.

I've found McPherson to be fairly accessible. One of my interests is verified voting and McPherson was a co-author of SB 1438 which mandates electronic ballots in California be backed up with a voter verified paper record. Many other legislators in the state, secretly and not-so-secretly, thought DRE voting machines were a pretty nifty idea...

McPherson is a "moderate Republican" problem solver who has managed to keep his distance from the more rabid and corrupt elements of the California Republicans. That's an appearance that Arnold strives for, even though Arnold is very much beholden to the Bush Republicans. (One of Arnold's Bush Republican duties is to cover up Enron and the rest of the fraudulant California Energy "crisis," and he is getting paid handsomely to do that...)

My overall opinion about this is the same as always: Arnold makes me sick. I would love to see McPherson turn against him, but I know it's not going to happen.

17. Hey, Dookus, thanks for the inside info
I used to live in Boulder Creek and we go to SC whenever we can.

This is my worry. Ahnode seems a little insulated, Mcpherson sounds like a real Republican (someone I can just disagree with, not a Con) but, but, there's a real effort to turn California on.

So, what are we overlooking? I know this sounds paranoid, but I've lived in this country for the last four, lol, and am just trying to look ahead a little.

My bet is, both the Grope and McPherson wouldn't be all that hard to manipulate. So, let's pay attention, can we?

Any RINO to them is a Republican I can accept. As far as republicans go, McPherson is the most acceptable.
