Just got my new "Smart Meter" from SMUD!
"The utilities use many of the same meters, vendors and software networks. But customers' reactions to smart meters installed by PG&E and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District are as dissimilar as the their corporate cultures.
"I think SMUD is doing it right. They are taking their time," said Bob Alvarez, chief of staff for state Sen. Dean Florez. "PG&E didn't do that."Florez, D-Shafter, chairs the Select Committee on the Smart Grid and has held hearings on PG&E's meter problems."

1. I hate PG&E so much --I'm a little too close to the San Bruno explosion
that said, the Smart Meters are great and I like being able to view my usage on daily/hourly basis using their website.

3. I don't think so
I must say that I was disappointed to hear that the "meter readers" are losing their jobs though.

7. They are being retrained for other jobs.
No shortage of work in the utility sector.

5. i've had mine for over a year
got it when the old one stopped working. i'm more worried about the new water meter that our city just got. it's supposed to really raise the rates. :(
