I love my new state.
I moved to California from Wyoming a little less than a year ago. This means that I went from one of the most redneck conservative states in the union to one of the most hippie liberal. For those of you who have never had to deal with the small mindedness in a red state, let me paint you a picture...

If you walked into a public place and saw a group of old people sitting around talking politics, you generally heard the usual Fox News talking points being said as loud as they could possibly bellow them. Who cares if what they were saying didn't necessarily make sense or contain factual information. "Clinton is the worst president ever." "Democrats are always raising my taxes." "Obama is responsible for our current economic state." It got to the point where if I entered a building and saw a group of old people discussing politics, my heart rate would immediately increase and I would be steeling myself for the inevitable rage that would come next.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago in my new state...

I walked into a coffee shop and spotted a large group of older men sitting at a group of tables. Cue the increased heart rate. Then I hear one of them say the name "Obama." My hands curl into fists. Then, I heard something I had never heard before. They were actually using facts! They all had differing viewpoints and not all of them approved of Obama's politics, but they were discussing things intelligently without screaming about Hitler and Marxism. It was a beautiful thing.

1. Glad to have ya here
But I must warn you, there are parts of this state that are as redneck as any two bit cow town in Wyoming.

Like where I live, for instance.
