Poochigian confirmed to court (despite 'not qualified' ranking)

SAN FRANCISCO -- A judicial commission on Thursday confirmed Chuck Poochigian as a state appeals court justice in Fresno, despite an unfavorable ranking by a state bar panel.

The 3-0 vote by the Commission on Judicial Appointments came after state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald George criticized the state bar ranking, which had found Poochigian "not qualified" because of a lack of legal experience.

... The third vote came from Attorney General Jerry Brown, a Democrat who beat Poochigian in the 2006 attorney general's race. Brown, a former governor, said he deferred to the judgment of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who nominated Poochigian for the job in August.

... The only witness speaking against Poochigian was Geoffrey Kors, executive director of Equality California, a gay-rights group. Kors criticized Poochigian's voting record, which included a 1999 vote against a bill passed into law that prohibits housing and employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

1. What the heck?
How do you rank "unqualified" and still get appointed? Sounds like "the club" is in full effect.

3. "The third vote came from Attorney General
Jerry Brown, A Democrat who beat Poochigian in the 2006 attorney general's race. Brown, a former governor, said he deferred to the judgment of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger . . ."

OK, I now know who I'm NOT voting for in the Democratic Primary Governor's race -- Garamendi's lookin' better and better. Poochigian is from the San Joaquin Valley and he's, for lack of a better word, a total weenie. Very much a (Republican) Party Boy and will rule as he's told to rule. The Bar was right, he's NOT qualified.

In the upcoming battle for the Right-To-Marry-Whomever-the-Fuck-You-Wanna-Marry, he's the LAST person we want on the Court of Appeals and Jerry Brown, who helped him get there, is the last person REAL Democrats need in the Governor's seat. I'm SICK of these milquetoast, no-conscience, tools who come to the table in a compromised position. We should be able to do so much better.
