Raids shut down marijuana dispensaries (San Diego-again)
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

Law enforcement officers raided an unknown number of medical-marijuana dispensaries around the San Diego region yesterday, authorities said.

The District Attorney's Office, which is leading the multiagency operation, declined to give further details, saying more information would be released today.

Word of the raids began spreading about noon with reports of armed officers from the San Diego Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies bursting into dispensaries or collectives.

The coordinated raids came a day after the San Diego City Council voted to create a citizens task force to study how to better regulate dispensaries

The rest of the state has no problem following the guidelines of the law. Why does San Diego we need federal agents and a "citizen's task force"?

1. Don't those overmilitarized assholes have anything better to do?
Like, isn't there real crime in San Diego?

This is unacceptable.

9. Not all of San Diego, just most of it. (special treat for MST3K fans incl.)
I live in Lemon Grove about 2 blocks from the SD city limits. Our Rep. is Susan Davis, who is pro-Healthcare Reform and who hosted a Town Hall a couple weeks ago that went very well, thanks in no small part to the Billionaires for Wealthcare, who arrived in limos and confused the Dildoheads/Deathers/Astroturfers to the point where they were rendered ineffective. Loved it!!!

On a related topic, we just finished our MST3K style riff of "The Trollenberg Terror." We have a 420-themed preview for your viewing pleasure:

11. Look DA is a wing nut.
Bobby Dumanis is a complete wing nut and she's trying to make a name for herself by ignoring state law and trying to get the Feds to come in even when they've said they won't. These are locally owned small businesses which pay taxes and employ hundreds of people. It's an outrage that she's doing this during this economy.

3. What percentage of the San Diego PD is former Camp Pendleton MPs?
I only ask because (1) it's probably pretty high and (2) former Military Police troops are the kind of fascists who would do shit like this.

Before anyone runs in claiming I don't support the troops, my DD214 gives me the absolute right to call MPs fascists, because they are.

5. Ya know that's a good question
But our police problems are more one of low pay. Hundreds of officers left for other departments when their pay was cut leaving us with one of lowest officer-per-capita ratios in the nation--IIRC, about one cop for every 3000 civilians.

For the most part the local cops are pretty cool with the pot issue. The real problem here is the District Attorney and County Supervisors keep bringing in the DEA to conduct the raids. The city cops would just as soon let well enough alone and be out fighting real crime.

6. Shame.
San Diego is a nice place to visit, now maybe I won't for a while. So glad I'm in the true liberal north where we don't worry about this on our farms or in our dispensaries, unless it happens to be Tahoe.

Why aren't these county officials called atavist officials, they are acting against state law.

7. WTF? The D.E.A.?
I'm guessing maybe your local law enforcement called them in but still . . . I thought President Change determined marijuana was a low priority. And wasn't there a case that was brought before the Supremes (they ended up not hearing the case) in which San Diego was found in violation of California law because they were trying to prohibit dispensaries from opening up in their county? The lower court ruled that it was a violation of state law for counties to prohibit dispensaries from doing business as they are considered legal medical outlets. I'm thinking the same argument could be made here.

8. It isn't just San Diego
There are problems all over southern CA right now. The raids in San Diego were cruel and patients were arrested but the police have been shutting down dispensaries all over in LA, San Bernardino and Riverside counties with help from the DEA.

10. I just moved to SD from Frisco...
Yes, I call it Frisco cuz they said I'm not allowed to call it that, sooooo...

They've had similar problems over the last 3 years there; the feds are constantly
bulling their way in to dispensaries and shouting

"STOP IT! STOP IT, I SAY! It's SILLY!

These geeks have NOTHING better to do than to continue to harass peacable citizens
over the most benign drug since baby aspirin!

Dumb Erica the Beautiful... what a gorgeous, slutty, gum-snappin', empty-headed dame!
