Sunday, August 23 “Sing Out for Peace” concert, Fresno, CA $ 10.00
Sunday, August 23 “Sing Out for Peace”- 5 p.m. potluck; 7 p.m. concert in Pat Wolk’s garden, 6661 N. Forkner.

The Fresno Center for Nonviolence is proud to present the lyrical and inspiring music of Heartland Harvest and Carmencristina Morena. This is a benefit for the Fresno Center for Nonviolence – tickets are $10.00.

Heartland Harvest ‘s music teeters on the edges of folk and bluegrass traditions and describes the varied musical expertise of each band member who contributes to the collective bluegrass and world music styles that they enjoy performing. Their harvested music embraces humor and themes with redeeming social values. The band members are: Mike Reilly on guitars, Chris Darden on mandolin and guitar, Linda Guerrero on fiddle and Bill Lehr on banjo, guitar, and mandolin. All add their distinctive sounds in song for peace and love.

Carmencristina Moreno inherited the music from her parents EL DUETO DE LOS MORENO who were professional singer-guitarists of traditional Mexican folk music, and pioneers in the early Mexican music scene in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Luis M. Moreno, composed over 300 songs; some considered ‘standards’ in the Mexican ranchera genre. Her parents taught her to sing and play Mexican folk guitar in the many regional music styles of Mexico as a child. Born and raised in the United States and influenced by its music from tin-pan alley to country and rock n’ roll, she became musically bi-lingual. She has recently released 4 CD’s with songs composed in her own unique, musically bilingual style, and also a CD of traditional songs of Mexico and Latin America.

Recipient of the 2003 BESS LOMAX HAWES AWARD - NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.

Our Annual Fine Art Raffle will be drawn the same evening. Featured artists who have donated artwork for this event are: Heather Anderson, John Mason, Ann Scheid, Joan Sharma, Howard Watkins and a special artwork from the family of our dearest departed friend, Polly Victor.
