If any of you know of any, plesase let me know...
here is what I sent to the few churches I could find I sent this email to:
----------------
greetings I'm looking for a home church. I"ve recently moved to Palm Desert ahead of my family which is still back in Ohio trying to sell our house. I would really like to connect to a community of faith. But before I do, I want to explain my religious orientation.
first of all, I want to say that I believe that Christ was the ultimate liberal. He was humble, he put others before himself. he was no respecter of persons and preached tolerance above all. he instructed to take care of the least of us and by that we would be doing the will of God. In light of this,, My religious moral code is that liberalism is the path to self actualization and achieving synchronicity with the maker. I try to live my life with compassion and understanding of others, even those who differ from me.
as a person, I am a liberal in terms of life and politics. I support the concept of diversity of thought, race and politics. I am open minded to learning how to expand and grow spiritually through my thoughts and deeds.
In my previous church, I was active, being on the committee to assist the homeless, and the disadvantaged.I feel that is the true calling of the church. I respect other faiths, and applaud any that work toward the good, no matter Islam, Judaism or Catholiscism. I do not judge others based on orientation.
now, that explains where I'm coming from in regards to being a congregation contributor.
Where do you stand?
What I need to know from you is whether your church can embrace that sort of christian. If you don't agree with everything I believe, I at least need to be assured you can accept me as a member.
I want to make sure I don't end up in a church that is intolerant of those who are different or who fail to understand the lesson of corinthians that the greatest act is unconditional love of others as yourself.
If you think you are that kind of church, then please email me back and I'll come check you out. If you cannot accept my philosophy, that's ok, but I don't want to waste my time and yours.
Here is what I believe as the responsibility of the pastor:
any sermon that does not save the lost, edify the found, or praise the creator is a misuse of time. Any church that more highly regards some members over others, based on income or influence is following the path of the Pharisees.
Love is above all. Tolerance is above all. Forgiveness is an active process that eliminates the ego and uplifts the concern for the well being of the other person.
If the sermon teaches us to hate or discriminate against any group, then Jesus is not talking through that pastor.
so....after all that. can we enter into a relationship in our search for righteousness, or not?
thanks in advance for your time. If you do not agree with me, its ok to to simply not respond. If you don't entirely agree with me, but would be ok with me in your congregation,, then please respond. If you are completely in agreement with me, then please please respond.
I have a wife and a 10 year old boy. I want him to be instructed in the true meaning of service to christ, that the truth will be a lamp unto his feet. Because that is so important, is why I am being this careful. If you have ever read "In His Steps" then remember the homeless man who came to the congregation and put a conviction in their hearts to live as Jesus lived.
Thanks again, and you can email me at:
