Who is running against "Duke" Cunningham and where do I contribute?

I can't stand Cunningham. He's not even my rep., and yet I want to help his opponent. I hope he/she has a chance.

2. Don't waste your money. I hate to say that.

I lived in that district my entire life. As a Democrat from my earlies days. Moved to VT only 4 years ago. That district Never had a Democrat, probably never will. It's so sad. We used to joke about the fact that our roads were bad because the Dem's ran the state legislature and to punish us, would never vote $ for roads.

I digress. I worked for a bi-partisan speaker's bureau and had to deal with his staff. What a bunch of assholes! Same with another jerk Repub in the San Diego area. You get to know if you respect a representative at any level based on the staff. I found people on both sides of the aisle who were great, but not Duke's people. YUCK. And it extended to him.

However, saying that, the general public never gets to know this. Duke is all about bluster and bravado and his conservative ties. At one time the North San Diego county area was very geared to retirement, so he appealed to the WWII bunch. Sorry to say, this includes my mom. He has a hold on that area. They give him lots of money. Until he retires, it's his show. And trust me, I worked for many a candidate over the years against him.

If you want a great race, try Brozak (sp?) in Colorado. He's on Dean's list and I gave him money. He's got a good chance, lots of press.
And others on Dean's Democracy for America list are good places to spend money.

I agree, the Duke should go DOWN.

His staff was very rude to me on the phone, very argumentative. I'd love to see him gone.

4. Everything's changed this election year in North County

The anti-Bush sentiment has been so energized that Democrats, independents, former Republicans, upset military folks etc. are supporting Kerry-Edwards actively, and also are actively and successfully campaigning for Francine Busby. She's the only real challenger that Duke has ever faced.

If you didn't know that North County has always tilted Republican, and you read the letters to the editor to the North County Times -- about the Presidential race, and about the Busby/Cunningham race, you would think you were living in a majority Democratic area (with some outspoken right wing nut cases).

There's been a lot of canvassing, bumper stickers, etc. All weekend, volunteers are going to be "bannerizing" the freeways and big intersections, passing out flyers at shopping centers, and precinct walking.

This is a serious effort with an actual chance! Contribute.
