Of course I know that, but a friend who is torn - ! - on the issue wants reassurance.

Help?

1. Churches can't be forced to perform marriages
of anyone. The state LETS, gives authorization, to churches.

5. I'm sorry. It's getting late, I have had too much to drink
and I have no more tolerance for ignorant, dumb fuck pubic hairs.

6. He's not. He's just, sadly, religious.
He's actually pretty smart and an overall decent guy who's hearing the lies.

7. This is a little hard to prove.
Many rabbis will not officiate at a wedding if one party is not Jewish. You can't force a rabbi to do it.

Will priests officiate if one party is not Catholic or there is no commitment to raise the children as Catholic?

There are so many cases you can put forward like this. You can't force a clergy member to officiate at any wedding unless you're the Pope perhaps.

9. It'd be like making churches do circumcisions
and synagogues perform baptisms

Churches do what they believe and that is that .

4. Try this

http://www.noonprop8.com/about/fact-vs-fiction

Fact: Nothing in Prop 8 would force churches to do anything. In fact, the court decision regarding marriage specifically says “no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.”

If they're looking for original source material, here is the full court ruling:

If you search on the word "officiant," you'll be taken right to that passage.

10. We have freedom of religion.

Churches are not forced to marry anyone. Anyone that has done a Catholic or Jewish wedding knows this.

Aside from all that, the law says no such thing, it does not say anyone is forced to do anything at all. All the CASC said is that everyone has the same LEGAL rights when it comes to marriage.
