Standing on the street corners with signs
And church's being involved in California proposition(s).
Specifically Prop 8.

Are these both legit?
Is a permit needed for demonstrating with signs on public property?
Can churches insert their will in the political process such as Prop 8?

1. Demonstrations -- depends on local regulations.

Check the code of the city in which the corners are located.

Church's involvement in California propositions -- It's an issue, not a candidate. It's not a partisan matter. The churches would probably argue that it is a moral issue and they have a religious duty to inform the public of their stance. But still -----

My church takes a strong stand in favor of gay marriage.

3. Churches can speak on propositions.
If a church speaks on a particular candidate or political party, it is a violation of the IRS code. A church can speak out on issues, under which propositions fall.

4. Agreed. Although I can't understand why churches are ant-gay marriage.
