CALIFORNIANS, here's a free progressive guide to the 12 intiatives on the ballot
California already sent out their absentee ballots so those of you who get them should have them by now. The Courage Campaign has created an easy to read Progressive guide with recommendations on how to vote in the California State initiatives. There are 12 of them. It's two pages and free to download.

http://www.couragecampaign.org/page/s/2008voterguide

Organizations making recommendations are:

The Courage Campaign, California Democratic Party, California Labor
Federation, California Nurses Association, Sierra Club, League of
Conservative Voters, League of Women Voters, Equality California and the
SEIU - Service Employees International Union.

I wonder if they have any suggestions for some of the people running. I guess I'll have to do some of my homework soon!

10. Thank you so much for this - does anyone know about Prop 7?
This is the only proposition in the guide where they do not give a rec either way.

7 sounds like sth you would really WANT to vote for but opponents say its badly written.

11. Environmental and consumer groups like the Sierra Club, UCAN, and TURN all say No on 7 and 10
I posted links to their statements here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4243828&mesg_id=4244186
and I posted a link to the "No on 7" website here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=141&topic_id=31963&mesg_id=31964

In fairness, there are some good individuals endorsing props 7 and 10,
you can find a list of endorsements at www.yeson7.net and www.prop10yes.com
but most organizations recommend voting No.

18. Rick Jacobs, founder and head of Courage Campaign, voted Yes on 7
Courage Campaign is the organization which made the voter guide in the OP.
Rick Jacobs was interviewed on KPFK today and said that,
while the organization took no official position on 7,
he personally voted Yes because he thought it was a good proposition.
Lila Garret, the host, said she also voted Yes.
She was originally going to vote No based,
but went to a debate between S. David Freeman and someone else,
and concluded it was a good proposition.

You can hear the interview with Jacobs, and a replay of her interview with Freeman:

podcast: http://archive.kpfk.org/parchive/xml/ctd.xml

I'm glad KPFK can be heard in San Diego again, or I would have missed this.
I still haven't decided to vote Yes or No.

19. 7's heart is in the right place, but it was written so badly...
...even the proponents of wind and solar energy are vocally against it.

10's a joke, nothing more than a 200 million dollar giveaway to pickens

32. They are an environmental org.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is turning environmental values into national priorities. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies.
