I just ordered a bunch of No On 8 stuff
I was on my way home a few minutes ago and saw a "Yes On 8" yard sign just a few houses down from me. Where before I was merely disgusted, I suddenly became righteously pissed off and immediately went online and ordered a couple of signs, three badges and a bumper sticker.

I've got to watch every dime, but seeing this vile bullshit in my own neighborhood made me think, "Fuck it."

Jesus FUCKING christ, I hate these people. :grr:

1. It's the self righteousness that's really bad
They think they are RIGHT! Goddamit, I get so tired of it sometimes.

2. Amen.
When I saw my first Yes on 8 yard sign this morning, just a few blocks from where I live, I thought about writing a letter to the owners explaining how awful, discriminatory and hurtful Prop 8 is. What if everyone who put up a Yes on 8 sign got a letter like that? A calm, rational, yet emotional letter asking them to reconsider.

I'll probably chicken out, especially since I am not calm and rational at the moment, but that would be quite a movement if people reached out, in a personal way, the everyone with one of those yard signs....

3. I feel like walking down there, knocking on their door
and asking whoever answers, "Why do you hate?"

But that could get ugly, and the management might not like it, and I doubt they'd side with me.

I've been composing a LTE in my head (oddly enough, I started before I saw the sign), but that's moot — I'm persona non grata with the local paper, as I used to be its city editor and was one of seven fired for having the nerve to be over 40. They won't even print my letters.

So, about all I can do is counter their hateful sign with righteous ones.

BTW — your "rant" was excellent.

4. I gave a speech on voting no on 8 in front of a few hundered (mostly first time) voters.
We also signed up six new voters today.

5. How'd you get to do that?
Oh, wait — you live in a city, where there's civilization and organization and stuff.

I was sorta fantasizing this afternoon about a town-hall thing here on Prop 8 and beating the haters down with logic. But it'll never happen — not here.

Wha'd you say in the speech?

6. I cleared up some of the misconceptions
and talked about how as a society we tend to get more openminded and less discriminatory over time, and how we shouldn't write discrimination into the state constitution. I also talked about the importance of open-minded young people showing up to vote, and how politicians aren't going to talk about issues that matter to us unless we show up and vote reliably.

The weird part was when a kid from a Christian student group, who was wearing a cape and stuff (I think he was supposed to be some kind of superhero for Jesus) came up and thanked me, and told me that his Mom's a lesbian, and that he's working on the kids in his group.

9. I was gonna get a yard sign
but it said they were back-ordered and wouldn't ship until the 20th.

Then I thought, well, some assbucket would probably steal it, anyway.

So I got window signs — smaller, but I got two of 'em.

11. I just had the same experience, not 10 minutes ago
I was driving home from my son's school and saw a Yes on 8 sign in a public spot, and it pissed me off.

I'm getting some No on 8 swag today, too. Blech.

12. I still contend the best argument is to appeal to their compassion and sense of fairness.
...even if you don't think they have any! I tried very hard in my thread downline to leave out anything religious or divisive, but of course I really hate all this "Christian" shit and knee-jerk reactions these idiots have that being gay goes against God. Who the fuck do they think they are to speak for some human-created shadowy authority figure that's just evoked to shame and control us???

Okay, now I got that outta my system, in case you missed what I wrote, here's the link
