DMV testing to get a tune-up

As part of the California Performance Review, the governor's office is recommending streamlining the testing processes at the Department of Motor Vehicles, including revising the tests and administering them on touch-screen computer testing equipment at all 168 DMV offices.

The new test still would be multiple choice, but would include graphic representations of driving situations. When a question is missed, the screen will flash the correct response. Later in the test, a similar question will be asked, giving the user a second chance to choose the right answer.

The net result will be a higher pass rate and savings in the cost of retesting. In addition, the computer will grade the test automatically, nearly eliminating the need for manual correction of tests.

While making the test easier to pass might seem to be an expressway toward filling our roads with underqualified drivers, the CPR offers a different slant.

2. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!
I get grossed out when I use keyboards that are shared by several techies in our server room at work.

Imagine touching something that's been goobered up by thousands of people, some of whom never wash their hands after crapping (if at all).
