If for nothing else, I want the Repukes to be embarrased by losing a safe seat.

7. 54 of 268 reporting in
usually rural/less populated areas post first. They tend to be red. Thats how it plays out in VA politics anyway...

10. No rural areas, but the red areas do come in first
Laguna Beach and Laguna Woods are where Democrats have done well, so hopefully Young will get a boost from them.

the 10:00pm posting should be a real sign of how things are going to go.
I was reading earlier today that there is anticipated 18-19% turn out the 9:30 numbers are 16% and the top 3 each got 3,000 votes & S.Young is down by 4% of total voters.

14. Steve Young already has more than twice what he got
in the primary.

And it is nice to see how Campbell leads dropped from 50% as the votes get counted.

17. Oh Well....Miracles Don't Happen
At least Young got 2nd place, but that was primarily because the repub vote split between campbell & gilchrist.

I voted for Young. It feels so depressing to live in such a lopsided district. They'll never change.

18. So basically...
Young won the Democratic base, and nothing more.

The crackpot AI candidate pulled better numbers than the DTS base.

The GOP candidate lost very little of his base, and still won the election.

Someone tell me how much money was spent to "win the base" in this election? You know, the base that would have voted for a ham sandwich if it had a (d) after it's name?

Was it worth it, or could the money have been better spent in a more competitive race elsewhere, a few months down the road?

I feel so bad for the Dems in this area. I live in a red county too, and it's like banging your head against a brick wall sometimes.

19. We need a redistricting. I sense that will come by 06
Hopefully. I think after that, there'll be slightly less red districts but yeah either way... maybe it'll be more fair if this bipartisan committee crap gets done.

21. proportionately yes
but there were 80,000 Dem's that stayed home. That is the problem with only a 23% turnout had the Dem's been hungry enough they could of made it happen. Young lost by about 4% of total district and with the non-voting Dem's being 20% of total district that did not vote it could have happened had more resources been committed.
