3. Early returns = Ted ahead at 52% this is at 9:15PM could change
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 11:21 PM by bsiebs
If Ted (the only democrat) gets over 50%, there is no runoff. A clean win. A big slap at the repugs in Sacramento that all fell behind a Beverly HIlls doctor named Mary Jo Ford (lives in Manhattan Beach) that got caught up in a number of lies exposed in a local fairly conservative paper (the Daily Breeze). Ted will replace another Democrat (Gordon) that tragically died in office with a brain tumor. This is a special election to replace him - the district leans democratic but is full of republicans.

7. thankee !

went to the party last night at the marriott. saw dan walker ( our torrance mayor there ) hmmmm. rumor is that now the C Council gets to appoint another Repub to Torrance City Council. I think that would leave only one Dem. More developers to flock to Torrance?

:hi:

5. 68.18% precincts in. Lieu at 58.39. I can't believe it.
I honestly thought we would be making Ted Lieu calls for the rest of my life.

Greg Hill Republican 1,835 5.72%
Ted W. Lieu Democratic 18,736 58.39%
James R. Smith Peace and Freedom 645 2.01%
Mary Jo Ford Republican 6,558 20.44%
Paul Nowatka Republican 3,608 11.24%
Paul Whitehead Republican 706 2.20%

PS Many voters complained that they were contacted too often in this race. However, it looks like turnout will be lucky to break 20%

10. I stopped by, had a Cosmopolitan and left.
I've never been to one of those things before. It was a little... I didn't know that the purpose is mainly to exchange cards with people. I don't even have a card!

Maybe I should get a card which says "Minion at large"

11. Wow--that's a pretty decent turn-out for Democracy in Torrance...
who knew?

seeing all the "W/Cheney" stickers in these parts (unfortunately), I wasn't at all sure which way it would go...

12. Turnout was under 18 percent! Is that good for a race like this?
I don't have a sense of these things.

15. Me too, Carla--
Then again, it could have something to do with the repubs in the area not really having their act together this time around. I read a couple of articles in local papers about this.

They did run, as evidenced by their final vote numbers. But I didn't see them running any ads in the area, on television, in papers--nothing.
