State Controller (Westly) Joins Calif. Gov. Race
I already posted this in LBN, but I figured it might be of interest to you California DUers, seeing as it's your state and all. :)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - State Controller Steve Westly used the Internet to launch his campaign for governor Saturday, becoming the second Democrat to enter the race in hopes of unseating Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger if he seeks re-election next year.

The former Silicon Valley executive announced his candidacy during an online chat and conference call with supporters, pledging to create an innovative government to return prosperity to the state.

"Today that dream is fading," he said. "I'm running for governor to restore that dream."

Westly, 47, joins the race for the Democratic nomination against Treasurer Phil Angelides, who announced he was running in March. The governor has yet to announce whether he will seek re-election.

1. I'm cheering for Warren Beatty who has not ruled out running.
He is seriously considering it, just so he can repeal the Bush Tax Cuts and add 12 billion dollars to California's economy.

but hey, any one that is not Arnold and hates Diebold is fine with me!

2. Westly's fine and I love that he's self financing but Phil Angelides
has shown he can raise money and has been more oppositional to Schwartzenneger from what I've see. I look forward to hearing the more informed opinions of our Californian DUers.

5. Way to go Steve *sarcasm*
Angelides already has the mainstream Dem party endorsement AND the Grassroots on board, whom he as been actively courting for several months now.

Now Westly wants to force a waste of resources and energy, fighting amongst ourselves in a primary election? All while Ahnuld sits back and raises more cash, and forces his special election down our throats. Way to go Steve. If you wanted to be a hero, you could have spent that 10 million ala George Soros, and set up a little attack group to concentrate on Arnold.

No one is going to forget how Westly kissed Arnold's butt after the recall election. Angelides stood firm, and called a spade a spade.

We never seem to learn as a party, do we?:banghead:

6. Remember Al Checchi ? ( also very rich)
a fair candidate started a negative campaign and got tromped. All Steve has to do is start negative and he is toast.
