Solano Terminates Touch-Screen Voting

Wed May 26, 8:09 PM ET

CBS5.com Staff

Solano County has given the boot to a controversial electronic voting machine company.

Supervisors have voted to terminate the contract with Diebold Election Systems. Last month Secretary of State Kevin Shelly banned the machines for the November election because he said a lack of a paper trail made them unreliable.

Diebold had offered to pay for a temporary backup system if Solano County kept the $4 million contract.

Solano will now replace the touch-screen system with paper ballots this November.
