Congratulations, Arizona: We're the Worst State in America!
Although the article is posted under "humor," and the article's just in GQ and not a more substantive publication, this still hurts a little bit.

1. For Years I Shook My Head In Dismay At Arizona
For years I shook my head in dismay at Arizona and wondered how the Mexican-American and Native Americans of the Grand Canyon State could put up with the vicious Mississippi-west bigotry I read about. Texas, I thought, was safe from enacting such crap even with our own set of stupid Rethugs in charge of the Texas state house. Then the 2010 election happened, the Texas Democratic Party was reduced to irrelevancy in the state government and the worst elements in the Texas Republican Party have just been given a free hand.

I feel your pain.

2. they didn't mention half of it
No doubt Brewer and McCain shot the tourism industry in the foot, knee, shoulder and followed with the largest expansion of private prisions (opposite of voters desires). But the article didn't touch on how unresponsive the legislature is to voters; education, healthcare cuts and the hyprocrasy of blaming illegals when 1) It's down from previous years but that hasn't helped the budget shortfall 2) Failure to figure out that immigration is a distraction from the bigger issues - like tax cuts when income is decreasing 3) No one in state government can figure out that without jobs the economy and state funds are going to tank no matter what they do. Oh yea, Pearce's position is to forgo all federal funds. That's why slashing $5million in Medicaid funding which reduces $20 million into the state is ok.

If there is a crook running for office, it's a sure bet Az voters will put them in office.

3. Oh, but keep an eye on Florida...
with new (R) governor Prick Scott and new RW darling Marco Rubio in D.C., we'll be giving you a run for your money in the "worst" department. We don't have far to go. <sigh>
