So where did all this rain come from?
110° on Tuesday and 60° when I left work today. The rain is refreshing. My only problem with it is getting the dog to go out to pee -- the goofball doesn't like the rain.

1. early monsoon
Here's something I've been trying to read and understand all the way through about it: http://geography.asu.edu/aztc/monsoon.html

My guess from what I've been reading is, the past few days being way too hot kickstarted the season-- instead of the usual dry westerly wind, the low pressure caused by all this heat brought in a southerly wind, that's much more moist because of either the gulf of california or the gulf of mexico.

2. This is not a monsoon
It's a late winter storm which came down from the north. Monsoon storms come up from the Gulf of CA.

I've lived here for 40 years and have never experienced weather like this in May!

3. I have actually seen a late winter type storm in June.
But it was nothing like this thing that just came through. Crazy! You are right about the directions of storms/moisture. This was definitely a winter storm. Monsoons won't hit until late June or early July at the earliest.
