Student jailed for planning food fight at Glendale school
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0520B1-talker0520.html

A student at Mountain Ridge High School was arrested Friday by Glendale police and accused of plotting to stage a food fight.

The boy, a 17-year-old junior, was taken into custody at the Glendale school and then placed in a juvenile-detention center on a charge of disrupting an educational facility, police said.

Jeff Payne, the student's father, said the food fight never happened, so he can't understand why his son was arrested. advertisement

"Shame on him for planning a food fight," Payne said. "But there was no food fight and he's in jail right now."

2. What does this part mean?
...The boy was taken into custody after he became very uncooperative, he said...

There's very little information in the article. Why was he arrested? Since when is a food fight a "jailable" offense? Sounds extreme to me.

4. I'd be pretty fucking uncooperative...
...if the Gestapo were called on me because of something I had thought about maybe doing. I don't remember the Thoughtcrime bill getting passed by Congress, did I miss something?

3. Back in the USSR.
Conspiracy to lob Jell-O
Attempted jollity.
Assault with a salad.
Big Mac attack.

The more I read stuff like this, the more I realise how lucky I was to grow up when I did, in an era when people understood that kids do stupid stuff because it's fun to do stupid stuff, and that nonconformity and rebellion are the defining charactistics of adolescence. Today, any signs of difference are stamped-on, any expressions of individuality or simple high-spirits are regarded as pathological and are ruthlessly punished or medicated out of existence.

We are the Deltas, free to work. Welcome to the Brave New World.

5. I have never heard of such insanity. I'm a teacher. I usually defend
taking control of the shcool and a zero tolerance policy, but this is just plain nuts.

14. It's a shame, common sense is not a common commodity in
schools anymore - neither is a sense of humor.

10. let me get this straight--a student talked about a possible FOOD FIGHT
--extra security was called in, and the student was JAILED for something that didn't happen??? Last I knew, food fights were not considered a crime, much less a jailable and suspension one. WTF is going on in the educational system these days?

and isn't this the same state, the neighboring county, as a matter of fact, that just released two men with not even a slap on the wrist for sodomizing youngsters at a church camp, all because one of them was the son of a MORMON republican politician?

sooooooo--sodomizing 40 youngsters with flashlights and who knows what else, isn't punished because it might hurt the offender's "mission", but talking about a food fight is a CRIME?

anybody want to bet the student had made some previous anti-* remarks?

can we give this worthless state back to mexico????

12. Here's the scariest passage to me.
School administrators were specifically singled out as food-fight targets, police Officer Mike Peña said. The boy was taken into custody after he became very uncooperative, he said.

Very uncooperative...I wonder why?

13. What's the statute of limitations
for unlawful use of mashed potatoes?

Do I need to worry after a quarter century? Is asking this question a crime in itself?

..."Next on the 10 o'clock news: Glendale orders that all copies of the movie 'Animal House' be removed from local video stores and issues arrest warrants for the employees of the stores for inciting to riot...."

15. I'm curious as to why this was moved to the Arizona forum
just because it happened in Arizona. If it had happened in California, would it still be moved? This has nothing to do with Arizona politics, but everything to do with the way our country is devolving into a Gestapo state.
