Press Release .....

OnSecondThought Announces
SaveAirAmericaPhoenix.com
Phoenix, AZ - Mar 06, 2006 On March 1, 2006 our Air America Phoenix station was bought by a Christian Broadcasting company who immediately took us off the air. This was a “dark” day for progressive talk radio in America. You have flooded us with emails pleading to get Air America back on the radio and asking how you can help. We have heard your cries and we can get us back on the air by April 3, 2006 !

The former staff of Air America Phoenix has negotiated a deal to resurrect operations at a new home effective April 3, 2006 but we need your help! We must immediately raise money to cover our operating expenses out of the gate. Our goal of $500,000 will guarantee us a home for years to come.

About Save Air America Phoenix

We can do this! If the Christian broadcasters can raise money from their flock to buy airtime then so can we. As they say in the movie “Network”, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”

My email to Dr. Mike:

Mike,

I am so thrilled to hear this news. I am desolate since March 1, the day I have since dubbed Red Wednesday. I'll never forget tuning in to hear Charles and instead hearing some pious schmuck droning on and on about some bible passage. At first I thought it was a caller, and I kept waiting to hear what Charles was going to say. Alas, I finally realized that the dark day I dreaded had arrived.

To the tune of "I Want My MTV" I have been singing "I Want My AAR."

I do have one question, though. It is my understanding that 1010 was sold after repeated offers were made and the profit became simply "obscene" and could not be ignored any longer. I heard this on the Charles Goyette show as the explanation for why the station was sold out from under all of us, you included.

That being the story, maybe someone can explain to us listeners why we need to bankroll the new project. It is reminiscent of fat cats like Colangelo who get the taxpayers to build him a stadium in order for him to rake in huge profits so he can live in luxury. I'm not saying the owners of AAR Phoenix are in the same league as Colangelo financially (although who knows, maybe they are?) but based on the reasons given for the sale of the station, that is what this whole scenario reminds me of.

Signed,

A loyal and mourning ex-listener, who has been forced to go back to the Republican infiltrated NPR programming on KJZZ,

"Hippiegranny"

1. This is a new venture
and does not have anything to do with the old KXXT 1010. Treat that as a death and what was. This is a rebirth, with a new team spearheaded by Dr. Mike. They did not reap any of the rewards from the sale of 1010. That went into someone elses pocket.
If I understand this properly, they have the initial money to get the station going, but any new venture needs reserve cash, and this sight will provide that money.
After the station went dark, there was an outpouring of folks who kept asking what they could do to help the station get back on, and one of them was to offer donations. Well, here's everyone's chance to donate if they are inclined to do so.

5. No, not the same owner
KXXT was owned by someone in Florida, and that owner is totally out of the picture now. Bob Christy, who managed KXXT, *was* trying to put together enough sources of big $$$ to buy another Phoenix-market station, but that fell through, and I heard that he had a good job offer in Los Angeles (didn't he say that on the Goyette show?)....not sure if he's taking it or not.

I think that this new venture primarily involves Mike Newcomb and his staff, and it involves leasing time/space on some unannounced station. I doubt that it involves Bob Christy, and it doesn't involve Charles Goyette. Not many details have been made public as of yet, even whether or not there's a committment from Air America to provide their programming. Those kind of details would be helpful, IMO.
