? for Tucson area DUers
I am looking to relocate to your area for health reasons and would like to know which areas would be best to look in for rentals. I am 56 with a fixed SSID income so am looking for the best bang for the $$. I'm looking here: http://www.tucson.com/rentals/.
Am looking to get to that area within the next three months and any input would be most appreciated.

1. Not knowing your price range, it's hard to say...
...but, on the east side of town, you can get a one-bedroom apartment for around $500. Try Broadway Proper (520-721-7346) or Huntington Park (520-885-8511).

If you're looking for a house or condo to rent, a property management company might be the way to go. On the northwest side of town, I've seen homes for rent by EMS, Del Oro, and Gateway West, among others.

2. I recall the advice I was given before moving to AZ
"You'd better make sure you have a LOT of money." He was right...the cost of living here is high. I'm not sure you could survive on a fixed income. My mom, aunt, and I are all on fixed incomes, pool our money, live in the same house, and we're still living hand-to-mouth. ONE person on a fixed income...man, you'll be living in gang land. :(

4. What part of AZ?
From what I've seen online the rents in Tucson are very reasonable.
Thanks for the reply.

5. Rents in Tucson are not controlled and have been going up
very fast in a short time.

6. If you are coming here as a full year resident
you might look at Green Valley. There are many units here that are rented out for very high amounts during the winter season but might be more reasonable for someone that would occupy them year round.
Green Valley is some thirty miles south of Tucson. It is an easy trip to the VA hospital in Tucson which I'm told is very good.
Many of the low rent areas of Tucson are frankly quite violent whereas G.V. is mostly age restricted to 55 or older and so has few such problems.
