"a message from air america phoenix
February 28th, 2006
Dear Friends of Air America Phoenix,

Thank you to the staff, the listeners and the clients for all you’ve done in the past 17 months...

...Air America Phoenix has now disappeared into the ether and Phoenix is left with multiple Christian formats, some in English and others in Spanish, several “brokered’ time stations (you know the radio stations selling you vitamins, good bowel movements and financial advice) a bagful of right wing “Conservative Talk stations” featuring Rush, Sean, Laura, Bill Bennett, Savage, Medved and all of their local imitators, three “Sports Talk” stations that live off the largess of their sister stations in the big corporate clusters that dominate the dial in Phoenix...

Thank you for all you’ve done!

Robert J Christy
General Manager,
Air America Phoenix, 1010 Talk KXXT"

PS the new GM of KXXT is Jess Spurgin jess@kxeg1280.com

1. I'm going to cry.
So tomorrow, there will be nothing?

3. I'm just sick about this, and I've been dreading this day. Is there any
radio station in Phoenix (or even a program or two on any channel) that is even half-way progressive that we can listen to?

4. nope.
Once upon a time I used to listen to Ktar - but that was before
I became so interested in politics.

Very depressing.

6. Not to worry.
Robert Christy has "put together the right banker and the right investors" and now he just needs more time. He's got a profitable and successful format with some amazing award-winning talent.

Somewhere on the dial he's going to find another home.

7. Does this format
have to be on AM? Is talk radio banned from FM?

17. Then is there any chance
that AAR can find a home on FM? I don't want to listen to Adam just like I don't care to listen to Beth and Bill.

9. I hate to sound
pessimistic but, Bob has to work just like the rest of us. I don't know how long he can hold out without taking another job.
Also, from what I understand, Bob held the rights to everything until the station went dark. Once that happened, it's fair game. In other words, KRAP radio station could essentially call Air America corporate and try to be an affiliate without Bob. It would not be what we had before. Bob had a real flair for putting this thing on the air. But it would still be national AAR talent at the very least.
I could be wrong but I don't think so.

18. If he's not suffering from burnout, which would be a shame.
I do believe it was a great little station, with really a lot of creativity.

There were a lot of bits that were local to AAR Phoenix that were really good.

Some of them Randi had on her web site.

Oh boo. I miss it, can't stand to turn to that station and get "Christian radio."

The church I usually don't go to is Christian, (vs the ones I always don't go to).

But who needs all this Christian radio?

8. So Bummed
This is massively depressing. I hope they are able to broker a deal with another station. The only Progressive programs I now receive come from San Francisco, between 11 PM and 5 AM. Arizona's talk radio market has really gone down the crapper since I moved here four years ago. 1010 was the one exception. I guess for me it's back to KTAR and InfoMercial Radio.

11. For me it's
NPR when I'm in the car and AAR streamed when I'm at home working on my computer all day.

12. And watch out for KTAR
They dumped David Leibowitz, who at least seemed to be a pretty independent thinker and now they have Tony Snow on mid-mornings.

I do like Ted Simon though. He's on in the afternoons.

Don't tune 1010 though. I had my car tuned into it this morning and it was a terrible radio preacher guy.

24. Made That Mistake
I did turn on 1010 out of curiosity and heard some Fire and Brimstone preacher ripping into homosexuals. Not only did they replace Air America, but they replaced it with its very antithesis. Uggg.

Tony Snow IS rotten. KTAR's strong suit is the news dept, and Ted Simon.

Not going to let this get me down, Listen to AAR online at home and XM radio while in the car. Hopefully something will get AAR back on Phoenix radio

16. yup that was my solution. I bought XM when AAR first started, let my
subscription lapse when it was local and now it's time to dust off the old reciever and get it hooked back up

19. It's all over as we know it.
I talked with Bob this afternoon about 4:00, and he told me that's that.
He's angry and upset about it but he's got to move on.
Believe me, he tried desperately to get this thing to work, but flat ran out of time.
All we can hope for now is that another station will step up and call AAR corporate and ask to be an affiliate.
Unfortunately, it won't be the product that Bob gave us.
Thanks to Bob & Jan. I consider them to be my friends and hope the best for both.
Thanks to Charles. This guy needs to be national. Best talk show host. Period!
and
a special thanks to Kim. I wish I had her passion and loyalty.

20. What do you think we could do to bring it back?
If we all just sit here and cry, no one will know how upsetting this is.

There must be a way to organize, and demand liberal talk radio in Phx.
I don't mean a protest - right now I wouldn't even know who to protest.

But there must be something we can do.

21. HE's upset?!?
<<He's angry and upset about it but he's got to move on.
Believe me, he tried desperately to get this thing to work, but flat ran out of time.>>

Maybe if that greedy traitor hadn't sold out the station in the first place, he wouldn't have had to "try desperately" to get another frequency. Nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to sell to those Christo-fascists. He SOLD OUT all of us who made KXXT so profitable in the first place. And did so just in time for the crucial 2006 mid-term election, when the people need Air America most.

I hope he isn't allowed within 5 miles of any other AAR station, so that he can't sell it out to more neo-cons the way he did with KXXT.

22. I think you're mistaken!
Bob is the station manager, not the owner.
Bob worked for James Crystal Radio, they sold the station, not Bob.
Believe me, you owe this guy an apology.
He was Air America Phoenix.
