Jim Pederson's son arrested for drug dealing!?
I just heard this on the news. No stories yet. Anyone have any more info? This could be bad news for his campaign against Kyl.

Son of Senate candidate Jim Pederson booked on narcotics charges

PHOENIX U-S Senate candidate Jim Pederson's son was arrested by Maricopa County sheriff's detectives last night after an investigation into the use and sales of narcotics.

Lieutenant Paul Chagolla says 24-year-old James Robert Pederson was arrested after a search of his home near 15th and Glendale avenues in Phoenix.

He was booked on a variety of drug possession charges and a weapons charge and released from jail this morning on his own recognizance.

The younger Pederson wasn't booked on sales charges but investigators are still working on the case. Chagolla says the investigation started after tips came in about James Pederson selling drugs to college-age students.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his office knew who Pederson's father was but politics had no bearing on the case. He says people selling drugs to students is a top priority, no matter who's involved.

Jim Pederson is a Democrat who's challenging Republican U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. Arpaio has endorsed Kyl in the race, but says Pederson is a nice guy and any family can be affected by drugs.

3. Do you think this is a set-up????
We need to think this thru.

Bennett - the head of the Az Senate - his son was in some kind of a scandal for
molesting other boys at camp.

Clinton's brother - Roger was a major drunk.

Is this going to hurt us?

Not that Pederson has become a real threat....
but could this be a guarantee for Kyl to win?:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

4. Thanks for finding that...
If true, I think it's probably a good bet that he won't be winning against Vyl. Had this happened a year or two ago, maybe... but this is too close to the 2006 elections. Ugh.

5. Az politics has it's own forum/blog
I hear about it on AAr and keep meaning to write it down -
do you have it??

It's time to get more involved in local politics.
This is one of those stories that could go either way, depending upon the spin.

shit.
Not that he would win. I just despise Vyl.

6. Not good. I was hoping for maybe a good race against Jon (Who) Kyl,
but this is bad news.

By the way, who is Jon Kyl? The GOP keeps putting him on all the talk shows in the last two or so years since they discovered that even Arizona citizens didn't seem to know him. What are his qualifications for being a senator, except being from Bush country AZ.

7. former Rep, Hayworth took his seat when he want to the Senate
elected in 94 to fill retiring Sen. DeConcini's seat, re-elected in 2000 facing no opposition from the D column in a year that was good for Senate dems.

About as, or possibly more conservative then Santorum. Hasn't done much in the way of anything notable.

8. I heard this too. Might have been on a local nbc tv news.
Was it drug dealing or DUI, not sure.

Wait though, various kids of politicians get in trouble and it doesn't necessarily take them out of the running.

The son of U.S. Senate Democratic candidate Jim Pederson was arrested by Maricopa County sheriff's detectives Friday night after an investigation into the use and sales of narcotics.

James Robert Pederson, 24, was taken into custody at about 7:30 p.m. Friday after a search of his home, Lt. Paul Chagolla said.

Pederson was booked on charges including possession of narcotics, possession of prescription-only narcotics, possession of marijuana, possession of narcotic drugs-interstate, possession of paraphernalia and misconduct with weapons, Chagolla said. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance Saturday morning.

He was not booked on sales charges, but the investigation is ongoing, Chagolla said. Some of the drugs were apparently sent across state lines, and weapons were found..."

PS: I don't trust Arpaio and the rest, so I don't know if this story is true or not.
