Greater Phoenix Area DU Member Get Together
Hooray!! We're going to finally going to meet each other!

I'm checking into some different LOCATIONS. Specifically, I'll be calling Iguana Mac's, Rosie McCafferty's, Hamburger Mary's, and My Florist Cafe. PM me if you have a better idea for a location. (Since Iguana Mac's has hosted several Democratic Party events in the past, they might be the strongest contender.)

As for the DATE, we're probably looking at the beginning of October, because right now people are getting their kids settled in school again, and then there's the D.C. peace march end of Sept. As for TIME, probably late afternoon Happy Hour which could extend into dinner time if you want to stay later.

Please PM me if you have strong preferences, ideas/suggestions, questions, or if you would like to help out getting this organized.

2. Hi readmylips!
Yes, it's got several positives: they've hosted events for the Dems in the past, they have both a large bar area and a large dining area, there's outdoor seating (in early Oct the weather will be cooler), there's sufficient parking, it's easy to drive to, and the owners are Democrats.

If there are certain days of the week that work better for you, please PM me.

3. I forgot to mention, if you're interested in attending,
please check in here some time in the next couple of weeks. We'll need to give the restaurant/bar owner some idea of the number of people planning to attend. Thanks!

4. I'm in!
I have a couple of restrictions--I can't drive at night and for the next 2 weeks or so, I have child care issues while hubby is in Prague on business.

I'm pretty sure I can interest my non-DU, but very prog sis into hauling me post-dusk, though.

I work in the central Phoenix area and am always up for that area.

Haven't been to Rosie McCaffreys or Blue Iguana. Cheuvront's is another good place, perhaps a bit more relaxed (I'm guessing) than the posted ideas.

Anyplace that welcomes is is Ok by me!

7. Consider yourself counted, specedteacher!
Iguana Mac's is a restaurant located on Alma School between Warner and Ray in Chandler.

(I need to check on a few different locations still.)

9. How about something more central....
Places such as George the Dragon (central and Indian School) or Black-a-Zoli Grill (7th st South of Missoure) would be better. Chandler is an hour or so away for me. Too far to come after work.

Young Professionals that are progressive for happy hour every tuesday night already. We do it at Rosie's or Eddy Matney's.

I would love to have DU folks to hang out with also!

12. Put me down as a maybe.
I'd love to come and meet everyone :hi:, but my husband has been traveling a lot lately and I don't trust my kids to do homework without me nagging. I'll have to see what his schedule looks like once a definite date is set. :-)

15. Perhaps we can organize a picnic/family event? I have
some of the same issues.

The weather should be reasonable by then and my poor kid is surrounded by the children of those who vote against their own interests, I'd love for him to meet kids of smarter parents!

Everytime I've had him at rallies, he's had a major blast.

16. I think that's a great idea, blondeatlast!
My kids are in the same boat as yours. For the most part, they are surrounded by wing-nut kids who regurgitate the lies they hear at home.

My kids had a ball at the Kerry rally at Tempe Beach Park last fall.

18. Do you have a certain park in mind?
Something that is centrally located, pretty, has a grassy area, and ramadas that can be reserved? I could use a suggestion because there are tons of parks and I wouldn't even know where to begin.

The ones that come to my mind are Encanto Park and Scottsdale's McCormick Train Park.

25. Perhaps we can arrange an informal get together at a bar, too.
Even do it regularly.

My problem is driving at night is risky due to some vision problems concerning depth perception.

My Florist or Hamburger Mary's both advertise on AAR and are in uptown

I'll be there! (whereever "there" ends up being LOL)
