The World Can’t Wait!
Drive Out the Bush Regime!

Mobilize for November 2, 2005

Your government, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.

Your government is openly torturing people, and justifying it.

Your government puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.

Your government is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.

Your government suppresses the science that doesn’t fit its religious, political and economic agenda, forcing present and future generations to pay a terrible price.

Your government is moving to deny women here, and all over the world, the right to birth control and abortion.

Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.

People look at all this and think of Hitler – and they are right to do so. The Bush regime is setting out to radically remake society very quickly, in a fascist way, and for generations to come. We must act now; the future is in the balance.

Millions and millions are deeply disturbed and outraged by this. They recognize the need for a vehicle to express this outrage, yet they cannot find it; politics as usual cannot meet the enormity of the challenge, and people sense this.

There is not going to be some magical “pendulum swing.” People who steal elections and believe they’re on a “mission from God” will not go without a fight.

There is not going to be some savior from the Democratic Party. This whole idea of putting our hopes and energies into “leaders” who tell us to seek common ground with fascists and religious fanatics is proving every day to be a disaster, and actually serves to demobilize people.

But silence and paralysis are NOT acceptable. That which you will not resist and mobilize to stop, you will learn – or be forced – to accept. There is no escaping it: the whole disastrous course of this Bush regime must be STOPPED. And we must take the responsibility to do it.

And there is a way. We are talking about something on a scale that can really make a huge change in this country and in the world. We need more than fighting Bush’s outrages one at a time, constantly losing ground to the whole onslaught. We must, and can, aim to create a political situation where the Bush regime’s program is repudiated, where Bush himself is driven from office, and where the whole direction he has been taking society is reversed. We, in our millions, must and can take responsibility to change the course of history.

To that end, on November 2, the first anniversary of Bush’s “re-election”, we will take the first major step in this by organizing a truly massive day of resistance all over this country. People everywhere will walk out of school, they will take off work, they will come to the downtowns and town squares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to JOIN US. They will repudiate this criminal regime, making a powerful statement: “NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!”

November 2 must be a massive and public proclamation that WE REFUSE TO BE RULED IN THIS WAY. November 2 must call out to the tens of millions more who are now agonizing and disgusted. November 2 will be the beginning – a giant first step in forcing Bush to step down, and a powerful announcement that we will not stop until he does so – and it will join with and give support and heart to people all over the globe who so urgently need and want this regime to be stopped.

This will not be easy. If we speak the truth, they will try to silence us. If we act, they will to try to stop us. But we speak for the majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT going to stop.

The point is this: history is full of examples where people who had right on their side fought against tremendous odds and were victorious. And it is also full of examples of people passively hoping to wait it out, only to get swallowed up by a horror beyond what they ever imagined. The future is unwritten. WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.

These next two months are crucial. The call you are reading has to get out to millions right away – on the internet, passed out as flyers in communities, published as ads in newspapers. DO NOT WAIT!! GET ORGANIZED!! If you agree with this statement, add your name to it!!! And do more than that: send it to friends, get them to sign it, organize a meeting, take it to your church, your school, your union, your health club, your barber shop, to concerts and libraries and family gatherings, everywhere you go. Raise money, lots of money. Get people together, make plans to be there on November 2, and to build for it. GET IN TOUCH WITH US AT OUR WEBSITE, worldcantwait.org

The world can’t wait! Drive out the Bush Regime! Mobilize for November 2!

1. Couldn't agree more with these theses: sadly probably 1/2 of Americans
who know most of this don't give a shit what the extreme ideologues who control all levers of power do, which if so, says a lot about a lot of Americans which ain't pretty.

2. We firmly believe that the vast majority of americans can be won...
to this call and to action against all this stuff. We're are not going to assume that certain sections of american society are off limits to this we're going to try and peel people off from the reactionary agenda of the Bush Regime as we unite those already in opposition.

You should help out. Sign the call here: http://worldcantwait.org/signcall/index.html

distribute it to your email contacts and post it to message boards. Try to organize a group of people in your community to build this movement.

Your government is run by a thug who blows up buildings to frighten people into compliance and submission in order to limit civil liberties and fulfill the Neocon imperialistic agenda.

opposition politics what we absolutely need more of is....

divisive, destructive, and alienating opposition politics.

I'll continue to walk for candidates and talking patiently to people who don't agree with me. You guys can go ahead and keep screaming at people how bad the guy they voted for twice is and we'll see who gets further.

5. It all depends on how you see the current situation and...
what you see on the horizon. If you think this is business as usual and that the people in power are not steamrolling a fascist agenda into place, then go ahead and try and convince people to vote the lesser of two evils. Good luck getting much sympathy. After more than four years of the "permanent opposition" selling all of us out, I think most people are beginning to lose patience with those who would have us find common ground with those who believe that torture is justifiable.

If what we're doing in confronting this agenda doesn't work then you're not going to be able to walk for candidates.

6. I'm sorry, have you not seen anything regarding Dean and Reid leading an
actually united, spirited opposotion?

But I'm guessing you're one of those people who want nothing short of a government-in-exile formed and to start building a miltant wing of the Democratic party.

Dean? You mean the guy who is demanding more troops in Iraq?

Reid? You mean the guy who is systematically caving to all of the most ridiculous threats and demands of the Bush Administration and calling them compromises?

These people are clowns. They say just enough to keep their base interested and then they sell them out. Over and over again this has happened. Where are these guys on the Patriot Act? Where were they on the Bankruptcy Bill? Where were they on the War in Iraq? Where have they been fighting? More importantly where the hell have they been winning?

Wasn't it Reid who recently came out and suggested that Gonzalez would be a good candidate for the Supreme Court?

Isn't it Reid who is presiding over a side-show of backslapping over the most recent Court appointee?

Actually I think the Democratic Party is an obstacle to change in this country. They're not fighting this stuff. They're complicit in lulling a large amount of people into complacency in the face of this, and ultimately they're a part of it.

And in terms of "unity" the question has to be unity for what? What is the basis of the unity Reid and Dean are putting forth, and where does it lead? And I don't just mean what you think it is, but what is it in reality?

It was one of the interesting things that in 2004 Dean was considered the anti-war candidate by many people when in reality his objection was over how we went to war, not if or why. Oddly enough, after Kerry won the nomination he somehow became the defacto anti-war candidate, the whole time insisting that he supported the war and would fight it better and smarter. Often there has been a wide disparity between what these candidates say and what their followers believe they're saying. And some of the people following these guys go to amazingly absurd levels to justify it, i.e. Reid suggesting Gonzalez was a "masterstroke of political intrigue and he didn't really mean it". Some of us out here prefer leaders that say what they mean so if something like this is true it is a really crappy way of doing politics, and if it's not true then Reid really does think Gonzalez is a good candidate. I choose to hold them to their words, and not ascribe motivation or machinations that can't be verified.
