Governor gets gun-bar bill

PHOENIX - The question of whether you'll be able to carry a gun into a bar - or whether you'll encounter someone else there who's packing - is now in the hands of Gov. Janet Napolitano.

On a 17-12 vote, the Senate on Monday gave final approval to permit people to carry weapons into places where alcohol is served. That includes not just bars but restaurants and other places with liquor licenses such as stadiums and arenas.

The House already voted 36-22 for the measure.

Lawmakers agreed to add a provision that says anyone who is carrying a weapon, whether open or concealed, cannot take a drink. But that may not be enough to persuade the governor to sign it.

how lawmakers think this bill is worthwhile.

Alcohol and firearms do not make good partners. (Besides, how will a bartender or bar owner know if a patron who is carrying has had any alcohol before entering their establishment?)

this makes about as much sense as allowing teachers to bring guns into school and of course, this includes automatic weapons now too.

the only thing they are defending is the right to regress to the 1800's.

Every time I think the legislature cannot get more stupid, they prove me wrong. And the votes weren't even close.

Did Gov. Napolitano veto it? How long does the bill have to sit on the Gov.'s desk before it automatically becomes law? Or does that happen here like in other states?

Only been active here in AZ for a little over a year, so don't know all the in's - n - outs of how the state gov't here works....
