DFA / AZ-VOTE Book Club
From:
http://az-vote.squarespace.com/

The January Meetup is the starting point for a DFA/AZ-VOTE book club. Anyone interested is invited to join in and choose the first book to read by taking the poll:
http://dfa.meetup.com/85/poll/

Choose from:

* You Have The Power / Howard Dean
* Don't Think of an Elephant / George Lakoff
* The Great Divide: Retro vs. Metro / John Sperling
* Had Enough? Handbook for Fighting Back / James Carville
* What's the Matter with Kansas? / Thomas Frank

The book with the most votes will be first and the second most votes will be next. The book choices reflect some of the better books aimed at progessive/reform activists. The book club participants may choose to cover one book a month or every other month. Larger books may be tackled in sections ('Moral Politics' or 'The Great Divide'). The goal after reading and discussing is to generate a review to be posted on the blog and in the newsletter. If you are interested in participating, you can connect at meetup or by emailing azvote.

1. Changing Hands Political Book Group
Wednesday, January 26, 2005 7:00 PM

NEW! POLITICAL BOOK GROUP meets every 4th Wednesday of the month. The group will discuss "Crimes Against Nature: How George W. Bush and His Corporate Pals are Plundering the Country and Hijacking Our Democracy" by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
http://www.changinghands.com/

This is a new political book discussion group in addition to the DFA book club. The Changing HAnds book group is open to the left leaning general public. The DFA/AZ-VOTE book club is geared towards activists and the wonkish among us.

If you are interested in 'buying blue' you should be patronizing Changing Hands as they are a locally owned business who are always welcoming when we table out front to register voters. Plus it is a great book store with Wildflower Bread Co next door for noshing.

Discuss "Don't Think of an Elephant" by George Lakoff
Activists Book Discussion hosted by DFA/AZ-VOTE meets last Friday of each month at Dem HQ 2910 N Central Ave. The first book chosen by poll is a great choice for this book club geared towards activists. Expect reviewing this book will generate some framing exercises. The goal after reading and discussing is to generate a review to be posted on the AZ-VOTE blog and in this newsletter. Anyone interested is invited to join in and also choose the next book to read by taking the poll:

4. Thank you for posting here!
I was only by your store one time but I thought it was a christian bookstore so I walked on by! My mistake, next time I'll look closer.

3. Books
You should consider "Two Americas: Our current political deadlock and how to break it" by Stanley B. Greenberg. Greenberg was Clinton's polling guy.

Stale at times, but it does really go into our current situation and give you a better understanding of the demographics behind the Republican win.

5. Vote for next book to read
Added one new title for the next round on the poll for which book. It is "What We Do Now" edited by Merians.

Suggestions for a new line up of books to vote on will be taken at the meeting of the book club on the 28th of February.
