s.e. newspaper message board died
Message boards come and go, this one was open, then closed, then open, then closed again, and some of us would like to see it work. New location here:

1. What happened to the message board?
I have to admit.. not living in the southeast, I'm not overly familiar with their local paper..

But if their message board was anything like the one the Anchorage Daily News tried to run, wow :o ..they completely went nuts trying to moderate it!

There were people not just from Anchorage, but from all over the nation that were SCREAMING at each other on it 24 hours a day. They had the forum divided into the same categories of the newspaper.. and one section was just for commenting on Doogan's articles (before he left for Juneau).. As you can imagine, the rightwingers DESPISED Doogan and trashed his section there.

The adn forum was incredibly BUSY, but they couldn't handle the amount of moderating it took and they shut it down. :(

The forum over at KUDO 1080 radio looks like it's getting fairly busy.. Hopefully they won't encounter the same problems the adn ran into!! :o

Best of luck on the SE's new message board! :toast:

2. The message board was shut by the moderator
because the posters were storming him in a topic he started, and "In My Humble Opinion," it got embarrassing for the mod because someone who usually was nice and quiet and polite stated clearly what the mod was doing wrong, as well as the other mod. Too much moderation from one of them, absolutely no moderation at all from the other, and both of them ignoring obvious trollism going on from one person as if they were totally blind to it. It was all very strange, looking back on it. And the rest of us? We were just posting in there that we agreed with these statements!

Nothing was going on there much until that little thread got started, I mean the board was a major dead-zone, as often happens when a board is recovering from a troll (who finally got 'moved on' somehow or another), and while we all waited for the mod to come and answer the claims, the board was suddenly shut down after about two to three days of that thread even being alive.

Nobody saw it coming, not a clue!

You know, I heard a thing or two about that Anchorage message board, I think!

It's a difficult balance between allowing people to freely discuss things, and stopping someone when they get totally out of hand and when they're obviously only there to mess up the board for anyone else to enjoy.

In this case, the moderators seemed to like it when we posted in the topic "what nice weather we are having today," and didn't much like it if we talked about anything more serious than that.

The downside is, of course, that the newspaper ensured we had alot of people who had access to the board from all over the country and now it's just another sleepy new message board with a handful of members.

And who the heck needs it when we can come to DU? <<<LOL!>>>
