Alaskans - a question and a suggestion
Every state has a child abuse hotline. By waiting to report to a hospital after her water broke, Palin put her baby at risk. That is child abuse. It would be abuse even if the child was not disabled, IMO.

Has anyone filed a report with your child abuse hotline?

I am not speaking without authority here. I am a special ed teacher and a mandated child abuse reporter. I have had lots and lots of training in recognizing child abuse. The more I look at this bizarre birth story, the more it looks like abuse to me.

A report would result in an investigation.

Just sayin . . .

1. There were all sorts of questions in the media as to whether she violated the law..
And it was a hot topic of discussion for weeks on the Anchorage Daily News political blog.

I think it was her dad who initially told the media how tough she was to board that plane after her water broke just to ensure the baby was born in Alaska..

But the governor was able to twist it around enough to make it sound like he didn't know what he was talking about and had it all wrong.

I think (maybe) because she delivered a baby with Downs Syndrome, there was a little bit of sympathy that set in with the media and the story faded pretty fast. The political blog at Anchorage Daily News went on and on about it... but that's about as far as it went.

I'm not sure if anyone filed an official report or not? If they did.. the media didn't discuss it.

2. Those reports are confidential
to protect the child. So I don't think you could find out if a report was filed.

But anyone can report suspected abuse. And if a lot of people call about the same child, they have no choice but to investigate.

Thanks for the info and for your other informative posts on DU. This is a very bizarre story.
