JUNEAU -- Anchorage state Rep. Eric Croft filed to run for governor Wednesday, the second Democrat to announce for the office.

It sets up an August 2006 primary contest between Croft and fellow Anchorage Rep. Ethan Berkowitz for the Democratic nomination. Croft, 40, said he and the 43-year-old Berkowitz are longtime friends.

"I think it will be fun to have two young people talking about their ideas for moving the state forward," Croft said.

It is unknown who Croft or Berkowitz might face in the 2006 general election. Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski has remained silent on whether he will run for re-election. That's keeping other potential Republican candidates out of the field.

I can't decide which one I want to win though...

Ethan?... Eric?...

Two great choices! :pals:

2. We win, either way.
If we can't put a Democrat back in the governor's mansion this time around with all the Republican scandals, I'm going to seriously start wondering about our election process here, too.

4. I've started a thread about Knowles, fyi

(My own feeling on another Brillcream Boy candidacy is that Knowles, if nominated and even if elected, would continue to interfere with efforts to rebuild the party's legislative strength, which is desperately important if the continuing assault on the social wage in Alaska is to be stopped.)

5. I have mixed feelings on this.
I sort of wish they'd discussed it between themselves(Ethan and Eric, that is.) This way, it knocks both of them out of the Legislature(and we don't have that many seats to spare there)and the race could potentially get personal and bitter, since, from what I can see, there isn't a great deal of difference between the two.

Either one would be a worthy nominee.

6. damn
i really don't think tony will run again...he just does not need the grief...he has money and is living the life o riley...so why jump into the meat slicer? i doubt he will run...

both eric and ethan are strong candidates...i'm starting to like eric more and more...though i still think ethan is the man to beat...eric has lost a lot of weight and is looking pretty damn tall and fit...

i wish them both luck...and if tony does decide to run again...he will probably get my vote just out of respect for a man that would face the repug machine again...that would be a hell of a fearless thing to do...
