Attention Alabama Fans: Shula Is A Bush Supporter
I heard this story a couple of years ago, but didn't want to post it, because I thought we might have a pretty good coach. That excuse seems to have evaporated.

This is just something I heard. Doesn't mean it's true, but I swear this is a rumor I heard.

A few years ago, Shula took Brodie Croyle to see Bush in Birmingham or Montgomery, or some place. Because they both loved and admired and were inspired by Bush.

This is just something I heard, probably on the internets. But if true, that would explain a lot, wouldn't it?

Like the coach's sense of judgement?

3. That is upsetting news.
Your suspicions notwithstanding, I simply didn't realize that I had disabled my profile. It is enabled now, and you're welcome to take a look. Or not.

4. Shula is OUT
UPDATE 9:40 a.m. TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore announced this morning that Mike Shula will not be retained as its head football coach. Shula led the Crimson Tide to a 26-23 record overall in his four seasons as head coach.

Shula, who was named the 26th head football coach in UA history on May 9, 2003, led Alabama to a 6-6 record this season. The Crimson Tide is bowl-eligible this season, but it has not been determined if the team will receive an invitation to a post-season bowl game.

6. I wonder if there are any big-time football coaches that are liberal?
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 03:22 AM by Syrinx
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but then most coaches don't take strong, public stands on political issues. It seems to me that the "win at all costs" mentality of great coaches is most often found in the authoritarian types so common on the far right. It's not a perfect theory because Shula was a Bush man, and Shula is not a great coach. Maybe Shula is not a far-right guy, because at the time of the incident that I referred to most people weren't aware of Bush/Cheney's true nature. It was obvious, but most people didn't see it.

I just did a contribution search on the Shulas. I didn't see anything from Mike or Shari, but Daddy Don's contributions are a little odd. Most of his contributions were to Democratic Senators Nelson and Graham, and to the RNC. Really, I guess it isn't that odd, just unprincipled.

EDIT for spelling.
