All Seven Of Our Reps Voted For Torture And Against Accountability
I urge you all to protest this travesty.

Here is a rough draft of what I'm sending my congressman tomorrow morning. I urge you to send similar letters to your representative, no matter where you live in the state. And make urgent phone calls to our two idiot senators too, as I think this will be voted on in the Senate on Thursday.

Congressman Davis,

I was disheartened to see that you betrayed basic American values Wednesday.

Your vote, if agreed to in the senate, will give the executive truly authoritarian powers.

Persons accused by one man, will be locked up forever, in secret. They will be tortured. And for the lucky ones that receive a "trial," secret "evidence" will be used. Defendants will not be able to defend themselves because of this.

If that's not enough, you have given retroactive immunity to administration officials for the crimes they've already committed.

This would be the worst, most anti-American bill to ever pass the House, no matter who sat in the Oval Office, but to give this kind of totalitarian power to the likes of our current "leaders" is nothing less than madness.

Congressman Davis, you owe an apology to those of us who still believe in American values. On Wednesday, you betrayed your oath of office and spat on the Constitution. Frankly sir, I thought you were a better man than that.

Your predecessor, Earl Hilliard, is a sleaze-bag. That is why I voted for you when you challenged him. But I truly doubt Mr. Hilliard would have voted for that truly evil bill. I'm thinking now of writing his name on my ballot come November.

1. I campaigned for Autur in the last election when I lived in the Most
Serene Christian City of Montgomery, and had a large photo of the two of us together facing the door of my office at ASU...

I then moved back to the Loyal Fifth District, and saw that there was a reason the Bud had no opposition: why bother when you have the defense lobby as your cash cow and Roger Bedford (though Roger might be in Aderholt's district, as they know that the 5th will always be Democratic) and Susan Parker still trying to fight in the State House....

There are great Alabama state candidates out there, like Sue Cobb Bell, and Judge Paseur, in addition to Lucy (too liberal for Alabama) Baxley, and Jim Folsom, Jr.

The state party is a morass of despair and good ole' boy court house BS.
With Artur and Bud in Congress, why bother to run a Susan Parker or Jim Folsom against them? The DLC and defense lobbies will swallow them alive.
