Alabama outsources state work

Its bad enough that greedy criminal corporations will use anyone (including prison and/or slave labor) to make a few more bucks..

But our state governments using OUR tax money to export US jobs is disgusting!!

Under a contract with the state of Alabama, an Arizona company is using operators in India to answer questions phoned in from Alabama food stamp recipients.

In today's global economic web, such arrangements have, in fact, become the norm for most state governments, a new labor-sponsored report concludes. And despite an outcry over so-called "outsourcing," few states keep track of how much contract work ends up in other countries.

"They don't really know where the work is being performed. If it's being done off-site, it could be off-site around the corner or around the world," said Philip Mattera of Good Jobs First, the Washington, D.C.-based research organization that authored the report.

In Alabama, eFunds' $13 million, three-year contract with the state Department of Human Resources expires next year, although the state will then have two options to renew it to 2009.
