Tweety on NBC saying the media has an Obligation
to call Cheney on his lies. He is hammering away and talking about video of Cheney and Edwards together on Meet the Press! He is yammering about the Sadamn Osama link lie too and that video. Says media should make and issue of this. What did he drink last night? He certainly is doing a 360 this morning.Says Edwards won on domestic issues. Weird. What gives?

3. maybe he should adjust his meds
well, that's what happens when you
only have the White House talking points
and have to give some kind of response
right after these are finished.

Any intelligent person would have said there
wasn't enough time to go over point by
point everything said and what was true
and false.

14. Stewart: "Chris Matthews for once actually playing 'hardball'"
(following the Zell Miller RNC interview on 'Hardball')

Matthews better be careful; he's dangerously close to actual journalism.

26. It would be awesome
if more journalists would follew Stewert's suggestions (like those he made on the Charlie Rose show - journalists moderating for truth). And actually competed with each other in search of the truth.

32. Yeah - everyone acts like what JS is advocating
is revolutionary. I suppose it is, in today's environment.

But that's what the media actually used to do. Try to sort out the truth. That really isn't such an earth shattering idea, or it shouldn't be.

7. I could not believe what I was hearing on MSNBC last night after..
the debate. I thought John Edwards was very effective and strong. I had to turn the channel as soon as they started drooling over Cheney's performance. How in the world could they say that Cheney clobbered Edwards?

9. i guess he read my e-mail!!! lol
This is what I sent him last night:

Subject: Ha Ha ...Edwards won!
You guys are amusing with your feeble attempt to keep Bush in the race with a predetermined spin that Chee-ney won because of gravitas! Face it: the people preferred Edwards! And while you're licking your wounds, why don't you track down some of Chee-ney's lies? At least then you would be reporting news rather than trying to shape it.

10. I watched very little last night. But he was onto it then, asking Leahy...
... (the Sen. who was the recipient of Cheney's foul mouth) if that was even POSSIBLE, to be head of the Senate for almost 4 years and NEVER even meet each one of the Senators.

Leahy was pointing out that Cheney meets with the Republican Senate leadership weekly, but not the Dems. He said this was unlike every other VP ever.

I don't know if they managed to get video by last night, but the whole thing was shaping up to make Cheney look pretty bad. Matthews just could not buy that what Cheney said was true.

28. I think I'm the only one who saw Chris interview the
Republican Attorney Ben Ginsberg. Chris lit into him about Cheney saying he never said Iraq was connected to 9/11, and pointed out that NBC had tape of Cheney doing just that. By the end of the interview, Ginsberg was sputtering and at a loss for words because they had been caught red-handed with a blatant lie. Chris was very good with this idiot.

17. Group-think
Picture this:

Pre-debate blather declares that Cheney is going to rip Edwards a new one, talking heads sitting together watching the debate, Scarborough starts raving about Cheney "mopping the floor" with Edwards, Mitchell joins in, Newsweek guy doesn't want to object, Tweety joins the pile-on. By the time they get back on the air they are in full feeding frenzy and only Ron Reagan objects (in a mild-mannered way).

I don't know if this scenario is true but I suspect something similar to that happened.

29. Exactly
Tweety and Scarborough looked like they were leading a locker room circle jerk.

Andrea Mitchell is a fool today after she went on last night about how devastating it was for Sen. Edwards when Cheney pointed out that "they had never met before tonight." Ooops.

These people on tv are mediocre non-thinkers. Sen. Edwards is right, we deserve better.

36. Andrea Mitchell needs to start thinking
When the *ies are out of office and they try to spin the economy for some future candidate, they are likely to blame Mitchell's husband just as much as the Democrats. She's a fool. To be kind. ;)

Once JK gets into office, Greenspan will come to admire his mind as much as he appreciated Clinton's. Finally, someone who understands what the heck he's talking about! LOL!

35. But that's the real point, Cheney WOULD have won were he not caught in TWO
MAJOR lies on TWO of his major points..now he looks like a LIAR because he said they never met and he looks INCOMPETENT since one would expect him to KNOW it to be true before he used it to sink a blow. :-)

Like Paula Zahn, Tweety's opinion of someone depends on their standing in the polls.

That Chris Matthews, he sure loves a good polling.

20. I think Tweety realized his audience overwhelmingly disagrees with him
I think the hundreds of thousands who went on his website to indicate their feelings that Edwards won the debate might have had something to do with his sudden and untimely coming to his senses. I also imagine he got a lot of e-mails calling him far worse things than "Tweety" last night.

..but in actual fact, he mistakenly took a few pills from Rush Limbaugh's hidden stash.

He's looking like a nitwit, and he knows it. Anyone who wants to vent should send him a little note to hardball@msnbc.com -- when you call him an idiot, or a weak reporter who takes GOP spin at face value without doing his own research, do it nicely!

But DO do it!

24. My take, with a grain of salt...
I don't like Matthews very much, but he's not happy with Bush. My guess is that they are planning to call the next debate, in many ways Bush's last real stand in these confrontations, for Kerry.

To do this credibly, they need to have the appearance of balance so they gave the less strategically important debate to Cheney (Who Chris likes more than Bush).

25. Full CYA Mode
So typical. He's a whore, and the truth of this can be seen in the way he and his ilk rep reatedly try to push certain story lines, and then reverse course when it's apparent that they're out of touch with reality. Last night was supposed to be "gravitas vs inexperience", or "experienced leadership vs pretty-boy", and the spin came out accordingly to support that pre-conceived plot. Now that it seems that (a) most polls show that people believe Edwards either won or held his own, and (b) evidence proves that Cheney lied, Matthews tries to adjust course, jump on the bandwagon, whatever. What a bunch of creeps.

30. I was somewhat surprised last night
After close to an hour of promoting the Cheney-as-authority-figure nonsense together with his panel, Matthews ripped hard into a couple of republican slimeballs. It reminded me of the bit with Malkin, when he literally reduced to her to tears after she spouted some nonsense about Kerry shooting himself to get out of the service.

He strikes me as more of a Buchanan type populist rather than a fundamentalist/corporatist republican of W's ilk.

As for Tweety, Joe and Mrs. Greenspan, I think they get a real rush when they are in the presence of a bully. They were so excited that their brains quit functioning. I am serious.
