Dick Cheney should be feeling a deep, deep sense of shame at his performance in the vice presidential debates last night and how he conducted himself. While both sides are expected to go on the offensive against each other Cheney's tactics were inexcusable. I'll just mention the two most obvious example.
1. He lied about never meeting Senator Edwards before the debate in an attempt to score a quick zinger painting the Senator as habitually neglectful of his duties... a lie that was quickly exposed by video evidence of Edwards and Cheney meeting well prior to the debate.
2. When the debates concluded John Edwards thanked Dick Cheney for his participation and the moderator for her services and completed his closing statement, and then Dick Cheney was given the floor... and he thanked the moderator. He pointedly ignored Edwards.
That last little parting slap in the face to Edwards was particularily contemptible considering John Edwards' conduct when the issue of gay marriage was raised earlier in the debate. Obviously recognizing the difficult personal circumstances the vice president would have to deal with to address such an issue Edwards began his statement by showing the class to give an extremely sincere expression of appreciation and admiration for Cheney's love for and conduct concerning his daughter when he just as easily could have gone on the offensive and put Cheney in an even more difficult spot than he already found himself in by maneuvering to put him in the position of choosing between publicly supporting either his daughter or his president.
And this is what he gets in return.

I hope the media keeps on this angle. Let's keep prodding them shall we?
