1. Just what I was thinking

Cheney may have been lying his ass off. But he was able to sting together some coherent sentences with some authority.

Bush is just out his league....It will be apparrent.

2. Bush will go "folksy"
the "town hall" pretend format will be catnip to his handlers who, I predict, will go into "folksy overdrive" to remind the Bushbots* that they'd "love to have a beer with him"

Hopefully, he'll start that way, get a couple of questions he doesn't like and then retreat into petulance. That would end things for him wouldn't it?

4. I agree... John was great!
My reaction to the debate tonight, (well, besides the screaming and swearing at the tv whenever Cheney blatantly LIED), was that it was not exactly a draw. There was no clear winner. This was NOT structured to really have a winner.

No one was swayed by this debate, probably. Cheney and Edwards were just too different to compare. Cheney lost MAJOR points by being a totally mean asshole, and being so petty. He's an icky, petty man who slouched his way through it.. He also looked very sickly, and began losing steam halfway thru. His voice began trailing off and he sounded so weak. Edwards did really well, he answered all the questions, didn't look freaked or nervous, was able to smile and laugh, and was strong but NOT disprespectful, as Cheney was. I really hate Cheney's "style", he comes off as the biggest asshole in the world.. but I understand that personally he's pretty funny.

The people inclined to support Kerry did not feel bad about their choice, IMHO, after this debate. It did not move any of the new Kerry people away from the ticket. John held his own against a very unpleasant liar. The Bush people loved it because CHeney basically repeated, in a VERY BORING fashion, ALL of the lies they've been shuffling around the campaign trail.

5. Excellent point
Cheney actually looks presidential - well, if Dr. Evil were president. We need to raise the expectations that Bush can do at least as well, and watch him fall degrees of magnitude short. Ought to be fun! B-)

7. Actually, I thought Edwards was more Presidential
Edwards came across very warm and charming -- yet competent, informed and sincere. Somewhat Clintonesque.

Cheney didn't look presidential, so much as he looked like a evil son of a bitch CEO of a millitary-industrial corporation. I can't imagine having to work in close quarters with this guy. :shivers:

15. I totally agree that Edwards was more presidential
I was just saying that Chestpainey looks competent in a way Bush can never aspire to. In so doing, he will make Bush look even worse by comparison.

I did not notice Oily Dick smirking, or rolling his eyes, or biting his lip, or grimacing like Bush did all night long. He looked like a (very evil) grownup.

9. Higher than W on a coke bender
There is now way that W can land the knock out blow (heh he said blow) that he needs. Kerry is to damn good for that. It will be fun watching * try and fail.

18. I agree

If W. was gonna do at least somewhat competently in any of the debates it would have been foreign policy and thats just because he has been able to make so many canned speeches and look cocky doing it. But when he gets asked questions that he does'nt know are coming he always looks...well at a fuking loss.

14. Strategically, people expect the VP candidate to be . . .
. . . more of a lightweight than the president - that's why the PRESIDENT gets to be in charge. I think Edwards did exactly what he had to do - go out and be a bulldog for Kerry. He fulfilled that task admirably and came across as LIKEABLE. Cheney hunched, held his chin in his hands, muffled his mike several times, spoke in a terribly boring monotone, did not look at the camera except from a tilted-head angle signifying insincerity - I could go on and on.

But here's the major message I think people are going to get out of this evening:

Cheney may be a lot of things, but he's not in the same league of stupidity as his "boss", and what people saw tonight is that GEORGE W BUSH CANNOT POSSIBLY BE LEADING THIS COUNTRY, BECAUSE DICK CHENEY IS THE HEAVYWEIGHT IN THE RELATIONSHIP. That's going to disturb a lot of people. That's not the way it's supposed to be. George W Bush has been systematically unmasked as the figurehead president. I don't think he can overcome this.

16. Great spin.
Cheney landed a few on Kerry/Edwards, and Edwards landed a few on Bush/Cheney.

But Edwards advocated effectively for Kerry. Cheney couldn't even be bothered to defend his boss on the charge that he used the constitution for crass political purposes.

19. with edwards holding his own, the vp slot differences become insignificant
the republican pushed issue of selecting the bush/cheney ticket because of a suspicion that edwards is incompetent has been removed completely from the table. the campaign challenge of the implied weakness of the democratic vp nominnee has been met and overcome. from here on out the focus will be on kerry versus bush.

21. I agree. Cheney just buried Bush in an even deeper hole.
Cheney is wicked as anyone who has ever lived, but at least he has a brain and lies very, very well to those who don't know any better. And although it was a tough debate, Edwards went toe-to-toe with Crashcart and came off as very knowledgeable and well-spoken.

Now, Bush looks like even MORE of a total dipshit than he did before. He is out-lied by own Vice President and completely outclassed by Kerry and Edwards. Of the four men running for this nation's highest offices, Bush appears to be the absolute weakest. This is not a great position to be in when you're supposed to already be President.
