World view of the Debate
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 01:16 PM by cliberty
Apologies if this has been discussed ad naseum, but I just found this info and I thought it was cool reading what people from around the world thought of the debate and our election.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/3704652.stm

>It is frightening to me that even after this debate, when it should be clear that Kerry is the candidate with the substance to lead USA, that it is still possible that Bush may win. Bush kept repeating himself and often looked lost for words.
En Szee, Malaysia

>The debate was at 4.00 A.M Kenya time and my father and I made sure that we awoke to watch the debate. There was no doubt in our mind that Senator Kerry presented a clearer vision in regards to the manner in which he will steer U.S foreign policy. It will be baffling if a country of such stature re-elects President Bush who in our view really in all honesty does not possess the qualities of a world leader and statesman.
Hanif Virani, Kenya

>I stayed awake to watch the debate and was left hoping that Kerry wins. Bush showed he has nothing left to give. I can't remember international opinion ever being so low of one of our greatest allies. I hope Kerry wins, for all of us.
Mike, Preston, England

>We watched that discussion very carefully. We appreciate Mr John Kerry, for his outstanding and peaceful presentation of what he stands for. We expect brave decisions from the people of USA, like choosing Mr Kerry as the president. A man with good vision and thoughtful action.
Dhanyalekshmi, Kerala, India

>John Kerry might not be an outstanding candidate, but this debate proved that he indeed will be a much better president, and that is what it is all about. To hear George Bush say that he knows how the world works is very, very frightening. What kind of world is he talking about? Good on John Kerry, his world looks more like the real world!
Jan Nicolaas Kind, Brasilia, Brazil

>I have to admit that Bush has learnt a lot in these years, but it is not enough, he still does not look very bright. Unfortunately this election will affect the entire world not just USA, so please vote for Kerry, let America have a proper President.
Antonio, Lucca, Italy

And some responses from US Citizens:

>I am sick of pretending I am Canadian when overseas(because the world hates us right now!). Kerry can give us back some pride.
Beth Buckland, Chicago, IL USA

This one has been drinking the Kool-aid:

>I didn't watch the debates. I guess because my vote was sealed prior to the debates when one decided to help and console the hurricane victims (President Bush) while the other went out for a manicure (Kerry).
Tammy Bailey, Madison, OH USA

2. Depressing topic
How I wish that we Americans - as a unified group - would show that we are worthy of the respect of our friends all over the world by NOT having a neck and neck race. Kerry should be ahead by double digits.

7. Polls are manipulated and don't always tell the truth
AND even if our country does the right thing and votes Kerry in, we still have the specter of voter disenfranchisement to worry about....count on it

9. I understand about the polls.
But, I see the B/C signs with my own eyes. And the little circular W04 stickers. It's so depressing to see ANYONE supporting that man. Plus, I have spoken to people face to face who support him "because of his moral values" or various other reasons.

10. Right about the polls
they're fun and intresting to do but I wouldn't hold them as the gospel for who will win the election. I remember hearing on Air America sometime this weekend someone call in (I think it was a "best of" type program of Mike Malloy or someone else) that said that one poll made it look like one candiate was winning over the other on purpose. Also I just like to keep in mind not everybody who will vote will do these polls whether they think the polls are just silly and useless to do or just don't have the internet.

6. Of course, now we also know that Bush
was NOT visiting hurricane victims. He was fishing.

I wonder if he put a little sign on his desk in the Oval Office:

Gone Fishin'

If so, it's probably dusty from being there for so long.

8. This is ridiculous
The people in Florida had enough to do without the disruption of a Kerry visit. I'm sure they would have really appreciated their police being diverted to protection duty and motorcades clogging up their streets.

11. It sure is one mf of a head-scratcher isn't it, Hanif?
It's indeed baffling to alot of us that he is even on the same stage as John Kerry.

One correction, "elects," not "re-elects," my friend.
