Will Kerry get an additional bounce from the Edwards/Cheney debate?
I think so. Cheney and Edwards are basically polar opposities in likeability, and we have the advantage. It won't be much, but probably a point or two.

1. Darkness vs Sunshine
Edwards just better have the facts all in a row so Cheney doesn't pull something loose with the truth. I have confidence in him though. Those insurance companies so don't want this guy to win.

2. To be honest...
I'm not having the same expectations for this debate as I did for the Kerry vs. Bush debate. Cheney will more than likely be amiable and try to put Edwards on the defensive right away (unless he's completely morphed into the snarling freak persona in these past 4 years). I hope Edwards ignores Cheney's little bag of dirty tricks. If Cheney doesn't bomb, the press is going to grab onto this and spin it into a victory for Cheney and Bush. I hope I am 100% wrong.

4. I agree with you. I think the press is itching for anything they can spin
in a positive manner for the chimp team. I know that Edwards will do fine but I do not expect the blow out that we had on Thursday. I think if Cheney doesn't wind up covered in his own waste in the fetal position on the stage they will try to spin a win for him.

5. I am not going to
count on it. I am sure Edwards will come off really good (and people already hate Cheney), but less people will pay attention to this debate--and even the ones who will pay attention are not going to base their decision on the VP. So I think it will be a big deal if it even helps us by a point. Or maybe it will bump up our internals--likability etc a bit. But I don't foresee a big change.

6. The format favors cheney. It's a sit-down, which will keep Edwards
pinned in a chair where he can't wander or use a lot of body language. No way the repugs would have agreed to a format where Edwards could walk about and connect with voters on a personal level. That kind of format would have been terrible for cheney, who can't even connect with himself on a personal level.

10. I like how you worded that. It couldn't be more true.

7. Now that everyone knows Bush is an idiot, they're preying Cheney is OK.
If Edwards can show that both the head and the tail of this fish are rotten, people will have no good reason to vote for them.

Bush set this up with the, "I'm surrounding myself with good people" line.

9. Cheney is one of the greatest debaters that ever lived
Cheney has never lost a debate. Former opponents usually concede the race to Cheney after their debates.

I can't remember what Edwards did before his senate seat was handed to him, but I doubt it had anything to do with public speaking.

This is going to be so one-sided, I don't know if I can watch. We'll just have to hope that most of America forgets to watch, and that it doesn't hurt the Kerry campaign more than ten points or so.
