The GOP answers to Fahrenheit 9/11 - weird
The freepers will stop at nothing - they now have a movie that equates Bush as Jesus. This is their answer to Moore's documentary coming out on Tuesday.

Frank Rich's column in The New York Times

Now on DVD: The Passion of the Bush

You can run but you can't hide: Oct. 5 will bring the perfect storm in this year's culture wars. It's on that strategically chosen date, four Tuesdays before the election, that the DVD of "Fahrenheit 9/11" will be released along with not one but two new Michael Moore books. It's also the release date of the equally self-effacing Ann Coulter's latest rant, of a new DVD documentary, "Horns and Halos," that revisits the Bush mystery year of 1972, and of an R.E.M. album, "Around the Sun," that gets in its own political licks at the state of the nation.

More than any other campaign artifact, it clarifies the hard-knuckles rationale of the president's vote-for-me-or-face-Armageddon re-election message. It transforms the president that the Democrats deride as a "fortunate son" of privilege into a prodigal son with the "moral clarity of an old-fashioned biblical prophet." Its Bush is not merely a sincere man of faith but God's essential and irreplaceable warrior on Earth. The stations of his cross are burnished into cinematic fable: the misspent youth, the hard drinking (a thirst that came from "a throat full of Texas dust"), the fateful 40th-birthday hangover in Colorado Springs, the walk on the beach with Billy Graham. A towheaded child actor bathed in the golden light of an off-camera halo re-enacts the young George comforting his mom after the death of his sister; it's a parable anticipating the future president's miraculous ability to comfort us all after 9/11. An older Bush impersonator is seen rebuffing a sexual come-on from a fellow Bush-Quayle campaign worker hovering by a Xerox machine in 1988; it's an effort to imbue our born-again savior with retroactive chastity. As for the actual president, he is shown with a flag for a backdrop in a split-screen tableau with Jesus. The message isn't subtle: they were separated at birth.

We have now entered the Twilight Zone.

3. The cultural divide Frank Rich sees across
Could anyone even believe this DVD exists if Rich didn't tell us? Now tell me that someone who really believes half the crap on it would not also favor Bush lying to the nation for the purposes of the war that killed muslims, lying to beat Kerry, and stealing the damn election in November. As a tool of God, all acts are sanctified.

That's why Bush's base is so comfortable with the most dishonest, craven, lying piece of presidential shit in history.

6. Downright frightening!
A Newsweek poll shows that 17 percent of Americans expect the world to end in their lifetime. To Karl Rove and company, that 17 percent is otherwise known as "the base."

This is why there must be a separation of church and state. I say this as a Christian. How do we know these people aren't doing the devil's work? How do we know that Bush isn't the anti-Christ? Religion is man-made and therefore subject to ambiguity at the very least and great evil at the very worst (i.e. the Crusades). That is why our decisions and the decisions our government makes must be based on reason, fact, and logic -- not some shadowy voice Bush thinks is G-d.

7. This I Gotta See!
From one who considers the Exorcist the greatest comedy of all time and has an appreciation for bad cinema (it takes a lot of work to make a truly bad film) I'd love to see this...or at least until my stomache linings can no longer retain it's contents.

Even better...let's put it on a national network. Don't look shocked, DU'ers...my bets are this thing is going on TV screens at churches like crazy over the next couple weeks. Why not let everyone see this diefication...shine it in a halo. Wanna bet it scares more than it attracts...especially of the social liberals in the GOOP who can't stand the fundies. Might make 'em stay home once and for all.

10. I think we should try to get this
covered on the mainstream media, so average folks
can see what a freakish bunch of medieval,
endtimes, bullshit is driving Bush's
fanatical base, and the fact that
Bush himself may be buying into
this shit.

These people buy into the Armageddon
scenario. Each picture of burned bodies and
crushed children from Iraq just sends them
into quaking orgasms..
they are our Talilban, and need to
be exposed as widely as possible.

15. I agree that before the election
one night they should show Moore's movie (on regular networks so everybody can see) and then a few days later show this movie. See the difference and who is telling the truth. I've seen other Moore films (Bowling for Columbine and Roger & Me) and he seems to go after anybody who is doing wrong no matter who it is. Gotta love Moore. :bounce:
