Excellent cheap solution for protecting Kerry-Edwards yard sign
I bought a cheap $5 window motion detection alarm at a Walgreens that runs on a couple of AAA batteries which last for about a month and is pretty small and LOUD. There is a double-stick tape part on the back that attaches nicely to the sign.

Someone was messing with the sign this morning and the thing went off. I looked out and the sign was still there.

2. Could it have been a dog or something?
I saw a motion sensitive sprinkler head. That would be hilarious to have some freeper asshole get drenched trying to mess with my sign.

5. It might be the wind...here's what happens
The alarm went off for about 20 seconds and then stopped. It's not like you have to go out and turn the thing off and reset.

It should be a standard device on yard signs. :->

10. Gardeners UNITE
Lovely solution. Instead of buying - just ask a friendly neighbor gardener to see if they have one to borrow for a month.

4. Cool idea- I'll try that since sign thefts have started this week nearby
I have been trying to think of some kind of deterrent. The little alarm seems to be a good one to throw a thief off guard.

6. I saw on DU where lady is using poison ivy to protect signs
One lady has evidently been using some poison ivy to protect her signs. I gathered that she is rubbing the signs in poison ivy to get the oils from the plant on the parts of the sign that a repug would have to touch to steal the sign. The oil from a poison ivy plant is effective for several days to weeks after it taken from the plant.

8. Yeah, but I have lots of kids in my neighborhood
I wouldn't want any of them to rub against it or something. I'd feel bad.

11. Poison Ivy
Actually, this lovely idea has effectiveness measured in months to a year. The oils are VERY persistent. I've gotten an outbreak from carrying wood into fireplace that was sitting around for 18 months - covered! It takes 3-4 days after contact for blisters to start!

7. A better idea may be the shreek type alarm, pull pin
The type that goes an a key chain, you pull the pin and it makes a very high pitch shreek. Attach the unit to the sign and a string to the ground via a hidden stake. When the idiot pulls it out of the ground, whamo!

I prefer just running a 220 volt line to the sign, but I guess that is illegal.

9. Loud
Beautiful. Elegant. Simple. Effective.

I have mine held to ground with four 18 inch long 1/2 inch diameter rebar stakes!

Will wrench their back out trying to remove it.

But yours is a better idea! Keeps the sign in their faces!
