How to vote multiple times on most polls..
just to inform those who spend less time worrying how a computer works than I....

don't forget that these polls (and most others) use cookies to tell your computer that you have voted already....

so if you log off your current user and log in as Amdministrator or Guest or another Username that you have (or have created :) ) then when you come back to the poll, it will come up blank (because you have no cookie) and you can have another opportunity to let your voice heard...

just a thought....don't forget to vote at your home computer and at work if able...

2. I don't have
that much free time. Besides, what's the point? If we can do it then the freepers can do it which only makes the online polls totally irrelevant.

4. Can I be honest with you? I detest that type of mindset.
I know, I know that the freepers all do that. But I have a total problem with cheating those things. I think the polls are pretty meaningless when they are so obviously manipulated. I just am not all about cheating.. even on something so small and insignificant.

5. Stupid
We're Democrats. We don't need to resort to those things. We should never resort to those things. Let the Repukes cheat - it's in their nature. It's not in mine.

9. Thanks Mom!
Angers me that someone is posting how to cheat, that we should cheat, etc. Just plain stupid...and against what we stand for.

8. Most polling software products record IP addresses ...
... and prevent duplicate voting by that means. If you have a dynamic IP address and can force it to change, then that's a means of doing duplicate votes but this is even more complex than deleting cookies. Many users, especially those on cable modems, have a static IP address.

The best thing to do is to record your vote once and let that be that.

11. all....
i didn't mean to offend, just educate....the decision is yours....

but i do want to make a few points or holes in your logic...

- how is it different to vote in a poll multiple times from the same PC.....and voting in polls that you would never see unless you read about them here?

- are not the polls scewed when you go to a newpaper or news station located in BFE and vote?

- are the polls off when a DUer actually goes to 'Foxnews' and votes for Kerry....when they would not otherwise go to that site??

I like this discussion because it is one of the differences between rabid kerryites (DUers) and rabid Bushies (freeps)...i really think that if dems had their way they would always choose to make things as fair as possible for both sides....repukes will always try to change a situation to their advantage...

This method above is one way they are doing so...i am glad to see those stand up and do things right....but you are playing fair with someone who will play anything but fair...

i think this speaks to the larger issue of how a party fights for it's candidates...i see the repukes as fighting as terrorists do without regard to law or decency....the dems on the other hand try to fight according to the rules....

we will be faced with, a some point, a situation where we may have to make a decision between:

- fight ultra dirty like the repukes....to win, or defend ourselves
- or take the high road, the 'right' choice....and lose

15. I would think the answer would be obvious:
It's a matter of principle. Republicans cheat; we don't.

That's dishonest behavior and it's what the freepers do, not us. Thanks.

17. No DUH! This is ANTITHETICAL TO WHAT WE STAND FOR
Sorry if you feel like you've walked into a buzzsaw, but you've walked into a buzzsaw. For a LONG time DUers have prided themselves on specifically NOT DOING THIS.

A little DU history lesson:

We've known for YEARS that this how it's done. Guess why it's called "freeping" a poll? They made quite a habit of it on Free Republic--published the instructions about clearing your cookies and all--and still do for all I know. But in earlier DU days we also made a habit of informing CNN and other websites when a "Freep this poll!" order had gone out and that this was going on, sending copies of the offending post to responsible parties at the big media websites when it happened.

We got quite a few freeped polls pulled this way, and it was as I say a matter of some pride around here.

And yes, I know all these polls are unscientific, but it is a VERY different thing to recommend people go weigh in (as a webmaster of a high-traffic site, I'm quite keenly aware that that is their purpose: to drive traffic and return visits, so this is fair play). It is quite another to recommend that people go cheat on the things.

I can't stop YOU from doing it, but given our history on this particular issue it SICKENS ME that you are advocating it here.

20. Dr. BB
Thanks for the info on the history lesson...but in several months (albeit a short time) I had not seen any reference to the history or to the idea that some have mailed "freep alerts" to media on polls.

Nor had i seen any negative post to me on other times i have mentioned this.

I agree that true patriots vote once, follow the rules....but until this post i met no resistance with this info...

Thanks again for the discussion...i and i am sure others learned from this.

22. Sorry to be vehement, but it's a perennial around here
I know you meant no harm, but this dratted thing comes up all the time and I'm enough of an old-timer around here to have gotten a bit tetchy on the subject. Here's hoping you stick around and keep contributing.

21. Thank you for posting that
We are down to the last month.
Such honesty and integrity exists here at DU.
Let's make a point about how honest the media who reports these polls.
At least 50% of voters listen to polls.
How many people in your house vote?
How many have the time to vote in these polls?
So if there are 2 or 3 who all share your views, is that cheating?

Remember the past 4 years and look what happened to this country.

If you wish, take the time to enter "absentee" (for your other family members) votes in these polls.
