Just saw "Going Up River" WOW! Very powerful!
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 11:37 PM by Quixote1818
OK, last year I was inspired by Wesley Clark and worked my ass off for him. It was the first time I have ever been so inspired by a candidate running for president. I saw something magical, inspiring, powerful and earth moving in Wesley Clark. None of the other candidates had that power over me. I was luke warm to all of them including John Kerry. In fact John Kerry really did nothing for me other than I knew he was better than Bush.

Last night I went to see "Going Up River" and as the movie played John Kerry began to grow and grow on me. Some place during the course of the movie John Kerry moved from average to above average to amazing to basically the best candidate for president we have had since perhaps Lincoln. I was in tears as I watched how passionate, how decent, how focused, how brilliant, how inspirational, how kind, how motivated by his heart, how poetic, how humble, how absolutely wonderful a leader John Kerry was for the Anti War movement. I came to realize this guy is not just another presidential candidate, he is the kind of leader who has grabbed my heart in such a profound way I cant help but want to do anything in my power to get this guy elected. This guy is anything but average! He is an inspiration and stands for everything that is just and good and he does it with iron determination! This is a beautiful movie that will give you hope that their are still good and decent people in the world. That their is a reason to be optimistic that truth and goodness will in the end win out over ignorance and hate. Everyone on DU needs to go see this movie and buy tickets for as many people thy know who are still on the fence about John Kerry.

I now have a candidate who inspires me. Who inspires my heart! What a great feeling!

3. just saw it
every person on these forums need to see this film...very powerful and moving.

at first i supported dean and then kerry becuase he was "electable", but after seeing this film i feel that kerry's entire life has been lived for this moment.

i had been only casually aware of the vietnam veterans against the war, the film really fleshed out alot about this very decisive moment in his life...his compassion, and humility in the anti-war movement really moved me, and the speech in front of the senate @ 27 blew my mind.

i too am inspired.

4. Beautifully expressed! That's exactly how my feelings developed
toward Kerry after I learned about his Vietnam years. I had no idea the depth of character that was within him. I'm going to see "Going Upriver" tomorrow, so I appreciate your opinion about it.

I'm a Clarkie, too, btw. :)

6. I saw it also. I dare anyone to see it without shedding a tear. It's an
extremely powerful movie. It generates strong emotions not just for John Kerry, but for all of the vets and also for our country. Kerry's speech to Congress was one of the most eloquent speeches I've ever heard. I absolutely love the voice of the young John Kerry.

Thanks for the excellent post.

9. Haven't seen the movie yet, but
I did see all of the Senate testimony about a month ago. At that time I wanted Vets for Bush to watch it. I thought it would change their minds.

I said it yesterday here. Anyone that is on the fence for Kerry needs to see this testimony or movie.

What a great man JK is. Bush doesn't even deserve to stand on the same stage. No comparison.

On edit: Oh, and welcome to DU! :-)

14. it's not showing anywhere near me, but Ill buy it.
Clinton inspired me more than any candidate since Kennedy. I campaigned for him, volunteered for him, went to his Inauguration, and wept with unbridled joy the night he won. So I look forward to seeing this movie very very much!

24. I just saw it..
thought it was great, but I probably won't see it again.

I wish I had popped a Dramamine. I get very queasy and nauseous at these type of documentaries - with jerky camera movements and old file footage.

However, I will definitely recommend it to everyone! I have so much respect for what John Kerry did. I wonder how history might have been different had he not been there to make it.
