From Philadelphia, home of the soon-to-be
Super Bowl Champion Eagles...

Well, enough bad guesses for one night...

I will tell you quite frankly among my patient population which is extraordinarily diverse, that the K-E ticket his just off the charts. My African-American clientele are registering their kids, their godchildren, their mothers and fathers and anyone else in their offices or wherever and dragging them down to vote. I myself discuss the civil rights and voting rights acts with as many as I can so they know what's going on in case they hadn't before. They are remarkably well-informed as a group and we should be well pleased that they are in our corner.

The working-class whites are fed up with the war, the tax breaks, and the threat of job loss. CIGNA and other companies in and around the Delaware Valley are laying off and outsourcing by the hundreds weekly. It's bad news bears.

My Jewish group is solidly Dem - they see * as a threat to the Constitution and I am often reminded of the great quote that Jews live like WASP's and vote like Puerto Ricans. I have a few of my tribe who like Bush for Israel BS, but I talk them down - probably haven't changed any minds, although you never know. Most Yids I treat know that the only Prez who really beat up Israel was this guy's Daddy and Unka Jimmy Baker, they figure that any Prez will stand by the security of Israel.

I don't have many wealthy WASPS's but those I have are solidly pro-Bush - they are lifelong Repubs and by and large don't give a damn about Conservative values but care that a Repub is in the WH. I tell them that he's not a real Republican - they more resemble fascists or the McCarthy wing of the party which they had repudiated years ago. They do respectfully listen at least.

I have a few RWers - we have a good time because the gloves are off but I keep it friendly for the most part. The best story I have along those lines was the RWer whose son has been sent to the desert. he is not pleased becaause it is his entire gene pool. I rode him a little bit - I've known the kid since he was born and supported the child's role as a soldier for the Greatest Country in the World and ridiculed the father for being such a horse's ass hypocrite.

Things look good in the 5 county area around the city.

2. great news
however, I would think three straight NFC title loses would allow for some humility when discussing the Eagles. 1960 :-)

4. Dave...
you're right about that - my cheer was tongue-in-cheek....I've had to console my daughter, now 13, three years in a row. I told her to start watching in early December to save herself 4+ months of frustration.

5. Retro:
This is the kind of game the Eagles used to lose - favored by 9 on the road, etc. We shall see. But the fact that your horse's ass former coach Ditka showed that he was a complete yankoff mitigates agaisnt your town. Sorry.

My kid goes to Andy Reid's kids' school. He's even fatter than he looks on TV.

The docs, dentists, and a lot of lawyers here are really pretty left-of-center. Surprisingly so to other professionals.

There are a lot of us who are humanists at heart, despite our bad press - we understand what's going on in this country better than many of these media and politico types. I gave Joe Hoeffel, running against Arlen Specter, a real earful and teold him about DU and Kos and some of the other sites where he can get support and raise money. He later told me he had done some investigating and thanks. I talk to Philly Inquirer and Daily news reporters almost every day in my practice and let them know what I think and, to my understanding have influenced some editorial positions. It sounds narcissistic, but true. These people are dying for real info and when presented cogently, do listen.

The problem in this state is that we write off the Senate races against beatable candidates. All the time. We're pretty stupid in that regard, but Presidentially, we seem to be going in the right direction.

8. I'm a native Philadelphian and I thank you for that report
Out here in Colts land, I try not to talk about the Eagles much, in case they meet the Colts in the Super Bowl. Not sure if the Colts defense will hold up their end of that particular bargain though.

I call my Dad all the time to remind him and the Steps to vote and to take as many pals along as they can find. I have the suspicion that a lot of Florida-like crap is going to be attempted in Philly and you guys need to be on your toes. No Philly, no PA and probably no Ohio for the GOP. Be careful. Vote early and vote often. Wish I could be home for this one!!!!

Hard to believe it's so Repub. - it's not like everyone's a frigging millionaire.

4 years ago on election night, Thornburgh said on CBS that Bush would take PA. He was sure of it, reminiscent of * in that hotel room re: Fl. At that exact moment, CBS called PA for Gore and Thornburgh couldn't believe it and was in doubt as to whether that was really true - he said something on the order of "we'll see."

So you may not be far off but thank God that we still have a Dem (albeit a real creep) as mayor of Philly. Sam Katz, not a bad sort personally, would have assisted in repressing the turnout here. He accepted an endorsement from Santorum which cost him the election for Mayor. Very strange business here, as you well know.

I'll go down to Pat's for you and order one with. Some of you know what I mean!
