We must be winning!
How do I know?

All of the John Kerry yard signs were taken on my block last night.

They just can't handle it, can they? They can't stand to see Kerry's name because they know deep in their black little hearts that he will win this race!

So, I went to the hardware store, purchased a black, metal sign frame, and two pieces of Plexiglas. I put the Kerry sign in between the Plexiglas, screwed the PG in to the frame. I used an iron mallet to hammer the sign into the dirt almost all of the way to the bottom of the frame. I then sprayed WD-40 around the black frame (I am going to put Crisco as well). Hopefully, the WD-40/Crisco will make it very difficult for anyone to try to pull the whole thing out of the ground. I am considering smashing a few bottles and rubbing double sided tape in the glass pieces, then taping the other side to the bottom of the frame for added protection. My wife says that is over the top...she may be right.

Those bastards will NOT keep me from exercising freedom of speech!

Anti-American Neanderthals!

However, my neighborhood has a pretty good mix of Kerry and Bush supporters.

38. The repukes are worried about the South ...
They have been airing * campaign ads in Alabama (Mobile local stations) and they are now putting it out to the media that the Navy home port in Pascagoula MS is probably going to be added to the base closure lists.

They like to pull this tactic in MS, Meridian Air Base, Navy home port on the short list for base closures. It is a coercive technique, and Lott and Cochran give comments to the press that if the repugs stay in power, they will keep the bases open.

Homeland security my a**, they will close local bases, but build 14 bases in Iraq.

18. Just hope that person isn't sue-happy
...because you could very well be held liable for her/his injuries. It sounds impossible, but it's not out of the question.

(However, if I were in the same situation, I would probably hook the metal frame up to an electric source, so that any perp gets the shock of his life when he tried to grab the sign. Yeah, I'm going to hell.)

6. I know that you can't do this...but..
wouldn't it be nice to attach an electric jolt to your sign...with a hidden video camera taping the moment they touch it... man... that would be funny....

Good Luck with your signs...

BTW.. I went to a H.S. football game last night and when I came back home... my signs had reproduced. Two more Kerry signs and a guy running for the state house. I was a little miffed that they didn't ask permission..but... I do live on a very good corner lot with a four way stop across from the H.S..

Maybe start putting up another sign that says: This is my Xth Kerry/Edwards sign b/c they keep getting stolen.

Or post it on your house/front door instead of yard.

Wear gloves! Some DUers and others have smeared the signs with poison ivy leaves and draped the frames with the vines.

24. No kidding ...
I also thought of the pure-hot cayenne additive some restaurant supply stores sell. Mix that heavily with some Crisco or vegetable oil and paint it around the edges of the sign, then hope they wipe their eyes or pick their noses -- or, as you say, go to relieve themselves -- before washing their hands. I've roasted peppers before, then reached up to wipe my eyes. It ain't pretty.

I went to dinner the other night, the next morning I noticed I was sporting a new Bush/Cheney sticker. I wish I would have caught them the other night. I would have called the cops and had them arrested for vandalism.

I'd be careful. Kerry is now more of a threat to them. AND they don't have the media to hide behind as much as they did.

14. Times like that, I wish I still had my dogs
I used to have four Boxers. If I was having a problem like that, i would simply leave my 70 pound male Boxer tied out front where his coverage generously included whatever I had to guard. He never would have bitten anyone unless they were actively attacking the family.

But no one else knew that. ;)

27. Thanks!
I've used it as a lesson for my daughters.

They helped me hold it up while I pounded it into the ground.

I used this analogy:

My daughter has discovered H.R. PuffNStuff on TV Land and loves it. I told her that Democrats were like PuffNStuff and Jimmy, while Republicans were like Witchypoo.

My wife quickly interjected that not all Republicans are like witchypoo, only the ones who keep stealing our signs. Then I got the look.

I noticed today that they did get a new sign, and have it hanging down from the front porch, too high to reach unless you had a ladder.

There are no problems with people stealing Kerry signs around here. They are as common as telephone poles.

47. There is some horribly sticky stuff
that organic gardeners paint around tree trunks to stop caterpillars. I think it might be called Tanglefoot.

Try getting some a garden supply store. If you paint this stuff on your sign they are going to have one hell of a hard time getting it off their hands (or gloves, or car, or whatever).

I've love the idea of the poison ivy. It would also be great fun to catch snapshots or video of the ittle perp stealing the signs...and get them printed in the paper or shown on the local news station! I agree that the they're feeling the heat and getting desperate.

I live in So CA, though admittedly in a county where the Republicans outnumber Demos, and a few days ago, some kool-aid drinker put a Bush-Cheney sticker over one of my Kerry/Edwards stickers on my car. I'd love to catch them doing it next time.
