So... was Dumbya really wearing an earpiece at the debate?

In the middle of an answer last night bush said, "now let me finish" as if someone was interrupting him- yet nobody did- he was talking to the person in his earpiece.

Listen to the mp3 yourself- or watch the video at c-span. did anyone out there record the debate- we've got to get this video clip out there- the president needs an earpiece to make it thru a debate!

Go to the above link to hear the MP3. Video link is here:

4. I assumed Lehrer was making some kind of movement like he might
interrupt Bush....or at least that's how the chimp interpreted it...

I'd be utterly shocked if they used such an earpiece.

6. If he was wearing an earpiece, he needs to fire the guy talking into it.
And if he can't remember the 10 minutes worth of material he spouted Thursday night, he's got bigger problems than I thought.

7. What if it was Dick Cheney speaking into it?
The guy does tend to mumble quite a bit.

8. My dad, a bit of a tinfoiler, thinks that
the Dems "hacked" into Chimp's earpiece feed and had someone saying, "You stupid motherfucker. You chimp. C'mon. Answer, asshole" etc. The funny thing about that would be that there would be no way to stop it, take it out, or blame anybody.

9. I'm unconvinced that he was. Bush could have been
responding to a gesture or facial expression from the moderator.

10. I think it was part of the Bush team strategy for Bush to demand more time
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 07:00 PM by beaconess
whenever he was about to run out (remember, he had lights on the podium to tell him when he was out of time), expecting that Lehrer wouldn't give it to him. That way, they could later claim that the debate format never gave Bush a chance to say everything he needed to say.

But Lehrer called their bluff and gave him more time. And Bush was left with more time to talk and absolutely nothing to say.

I think the earpiece rumor is just some of our imaginations working overtime.

Consider this: if Bush were wearing an earpiece that visible enough for DUers watching at home to see on their television screens, don't you think that the dozens of people who came into contact with Bush the night of the debate - many of whom were not only not part of Bush's team, but work for Kerry or the DNC (in addition to the technicians, producers, press and other people not connected to either campaign) would have seen it and called foul?

I think we should stop with these tinfoil fantasies. We sound like Freepers.

13. IIRC, when he said that he had plenty of time.
It surprised me when he said it, because I think it was only about halfway in to his alloted time.

For the record, I don't think he had an earpiece, I think he was simply losing it and blurted that out in a fit of nervousness and frustration.

14. That's certainly possible - he often yells that at interviewers who
have the nerve to not swallow everything he says with a smile. It may just be habit.

12. No way.
If anything, it looked like he NEEDED someone to tell him what to say.
