Deborah Norville should NOT try to be funny
She's got the Daily Show writers on MSNBC right now and is trying to be cutesy funny with them, and it's working about as well as Krusty in Harlem.

I imagine the Daily Show guys are thinking to themselves, man, can't wait to get back to our desks and start making fun of this stupid bitch!

1. She is, was and always will be a hokey, phony idiot.
Clueless. Doesn't "get" these guys at all!

She always sounds like an SNL SKIT of an interviewer, instead of a real interviewer.

John Stewart is at home wincing as he watches this!

Maybe not, but it beats hell out of what we have now.

8. She is too dumb for prime time
I'm sitting here embarrassed for her since she is too dense to know she is making an ass of herself.

She is doing an amazing parody of a newsperson trying to pretend to be a newsperson without a clue what is happening. Fawning, pandering yet doesn't realize they are making fun of her all the while, the jokes are sailing right over her head.

3. I hadn't noticed her trying to do that
I think she's a decent interviewer, not a shill for the GOP like some of the other MSNBC regulars - who gets the humor of the show. I think it's great that she has them on.

You guys need to pick on somebody who really deserves it.

Absolutely scary. Deborah Norville was dead serious when trying to point out that's not what Bush said.

11. Seriously (if that's OK), her show with the Swiftboat Liars was excellent
She didn't let them get away with some of the stuff that other interviewers did at the time, and stuck it to them with her questions. Sounds like you missed that show.

She seems moderate-to-liberal in her viewpoints, and I'm glad to see someone on who is.

Why the hypercritical attitude about Deborah Norville tonight? Would you be happier with an Ann Coulter type?

17. I think Norville is great - she can handle fluff and serious news
That is her strong point. She can handle serious topics like the Swift Liars and pop culture topics like Passion of the Christ (she had a great show on that). And there is actual discussion going on her show instead of just the talking heads and the spinners regurgiating talking points. Most of these "news" shows like Zahn for example, mostly have the spin doctors on to "debate", where they basically trade talking points like dualing robots. Then the host spouts the Washington conventional wisdom and tries to pass it as "analysis". Rinse. Repeat. Most of these "news entertainment" shows are like that. Not Norville, and not Olberman. Surprising for the pathetic MSNBC. Norville and Olberman's shows are a good combination of news, politics and pop culture. Olberman is funnier, Norville's show is more thoughtful.

21. Maybe I haven't watched her enough, but she was an idiot
when she was on the morning network show and this last interview is the first time I have seen her in years. I only watched because of the Daily Show Guys and she ruined this interview! She was dull boring, and really stupid. She was like a deer in headlights. I find it hard to believe she could be thoughtful. I will check her out again but I just don't see how you could blow an interview with these guys so bad and be any good. I would love to interview them.

Geez. there's no need to pick on every TV personality. Save it for those that really deserve it. Makes us look real petty.

13. I think
people are being a bit too rough on Norville. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she's a million times better than Paula Zahn (who really is a vapid fool).

Norville isn't a RWer. I get the impression that she's center-left in her viewpoints.

Of all the primetime cable news people, she's one of the better ones.

15. Stupid is stupid.
It is even less acceptable for her to be stupid if she is a liberal. I expect the RW to be stupid. If she is "one of the better ones" cable news is even more in the toilet than I thought.

16. I really like Deborah Norville
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 01:39 AM by secular_warrior
I usually watch some of her show after Keith Olberman. I find Norville to be very professional, fair and kind to her guests -- no matter who comes on. Partisans looking for "emotional payoff" won't like Norville -- she doesn't take sides and annoy like Zahn, Woodruff and many other cable news reporters, who may not exactly be GOP shills, but they follow whatever the Washington conventional wisdom is at a particular moment in time and seem to get stuck there -- even when reality has changed. This is what causes the appearance of bias because the Washington conventional wisdom moves right and left.

People like Olberman and Norville don't suffer from Washington/cable news industry groupthink and IMO they are very refreshing.

Norville is the consummate centrist. She's not looking to be provocative or trendy. She just wants to have a nice, quiet, thoughtful hour in a raging ocean of self aggrandizing, shouting talking head shows. Norville's show is not groundbreaking, hard-hitting or even must-see-tv, but IMO it's a pretty decent show.

23. it was PAINFUL to watch
she is CLUELESS; trying to be hip with the young people

they should just have had them on by themselves

THAT would have been funny

they were terribly constrained by her lameass questions

a real journalist would have cut to the chase and delved into the reality of the reasons for the humor value of the lying, hypocritical NAZIS that have overtaken the political process, and how OBVIOUS it is that making fun of dems is almost NEVER funny, mainly cause they're so feckless, so POWERLESS

it's the main reason Dennis Miller, Colin Quinn, and other RW 'comedians' are so unfunny

Hitler's court jester was no laugh machine, either
