Predictions for debate #2.
chimpy will come out swinging then the future president will keep

the pressure on *....chimpy will freak that kerry isnt backing

down...will get more angry and will lose it at the town hall debate.

Town hall debates kinda of require good behavior.

1. Well I'm not sure about what you said, as I just can't see Rove
letting this happen.

26. I think Rove will tell chimpy to be reserved
but he doesn't DO that well...arrogance is his normal mode, so he might come off as lackadasical and/or stoned.

I'm frankly more worried about Sen. Kerry in the second one because I worry about how he interacts sometimes. But he won't lose because of the chimp's GOOD performance; he primarily hs to worry about giving a weak one himself.

3. Honestly, I think Bush'll do okay at the townhall
My guess is the townhall will be a bit of a draw. These guys are ruthless and extremely committed. I think he'll be ok, better than last night, nothing spectacular though, so not really a loss for Kerry.

He'll probably be more prepared for the domestic policy debate too, so Kerry needs to make sure he's ever more on top of it so he can hammer Bush and win the last debate and get the final word.

4. I am fully expecting Kerry's poll numbers to jump in every
battleground state after viewing the 1st debate. If Kerry
is not ahead by atleast 5%, I will be sorely disappointed.
I will then be like "What the fuck does it take to wake up
the sheeple??!!@#&&$#"

22. Like your predictions.
I've seen them in several places and I am a fellow traveler. The people are in NPW (Normal People World). They just started paying attention. They've been bush trying to affort their health insurance and keep their jobs (like all of us). The debate had 64 million viewers, not the 40 million reported. That's kick-ass attention by the people and it bodes well for large turnout. Hang fire and watch your divinations bear fruit.

5. I tend to agree
that Bush is going to be on edge. I fully expect that Edwards is going to expose Cheney as the crusty toad he is. The republican campaign HQ will know they are down, 2 to 0. And Bush is going into the debating format he is least comfortable in.

How will Karl "prep" the little gipper? Well, I'd say GWB has been humiliated. He knows he lost to a better man. To get him ready, Rove has to lie to Bush, to create a false sense of security.

But when it comes time to debate, Karl isn't with him. He can't have Dick Cheney as a chaperon on this date with destiny. Yeah, Bush is going to act out. I'm sure of it.

8. Yes, plus "sound bites"
GWB experienced some pretty significant "blank outs" when he tried to call up the facts and figures he had been prepped with. Normally, (if that word actually applies to Bush) he prides himself in being able to quickly memorize small pieces of information, such as reporters' names. Rove sees him as having the ability to have recall with a "sight association."

They have to know Bush bombed with his sad attempts to use sound bites: "wrong war, etc, etc." They're going to be trying to come up with some new stinging insults. George W. won't let us down. He's going to try to show Kerry who is boss.

15. And that's why Kerry should hit him right off the bat the way he
did last night - rattle him early cause he doesn't recover well. Bush's domestic agenda is worse than the war on Iraq and he has nothing to show except his tax cut for the rich. If he thinks that $300 impressed the rest of us, he's sadly mistaken. Knock him off balance, which isn't really that hard, and go for the jugular yet still show him some respect - I couldn't do that part, but hopefully Kerry can.

6. My guess is that Bush...
... will pull out the religion card, try to make much of "faith-based" programs, how well they're working, etc. Will try his best to spin the statistics on the economy to make it sound as if things are great.

All Kerry has to do then is have the statistics in mind that Bush won't want to talk about--lost manufacturing jobs, outsourcing plans, overall net loss of jobs, declining average wages. When Bush talks about all the housing starts and how more people own their own homes, then Kerry needs to have the figures in mind for record-level bankruptcies and foreclosures, that sort of thing.

9. WE know this is the right approach, but
statistics don't work well with the people that are likely to support *. They'll be like a deer in headlights if JK starts spouting truth. He'd be better off to talk about real people, how thing affect real people. I have a staff member that never realized how all these things affect her. Now I'm so proud of her because she's out campaigning for Kerry.

And I owe SO MUCH of that to DU. This place is an awesome resource.

11. Well, I don't think it's hard for people...
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 07:49 PM by punpirate
... to understand that over a million jobs have been lost since Bush took office, and that's the first time it's happened since Herbert Hoover's administration in 1932.

That's what I mean by statistics. I'm not saying he should sound like an economist--I'm saying he should state the facts--I trust him to put those facts in a way that people will understand.

Cheers.

edit for syntax.

12. yep, we agree
I do hope he can come up with a way to show that it affects everyone even IF you still have a job. After seeing last night, I'm fired up. I'm thinking he's up to the task.

Keep fighting the good fight!

10. Debate2 is the one that really doesn't matter
Just the first and the last. That's it. The last one is the big kahunna-the last chance for Kerry to nail Bush's balls to the wall. Mark your calendars.

Oh, and I'm loving looking forward to Cheney trying to eat Edwards and Edwards just smiling and saying what a liar he is in that nice Southern boy way he has.

Debate 1 was too easy!!!

...and the next two are on domestic policy which Kerry already has sealed and ready to deliver!

23. Welcome to DU, Demaholic
I like your screen name. :toast:

The first debate sure wasn't easy for Bush. I'm surprised he made it through it without charging Kerry.

Kerry certainly made it look easy up there, but he answered some pretty tough questions which show that he has a really quick mind, much quicker than W's.

I agree with your assessment of the second and third debates. Bush is even weaker on domestic policy than he is on foreign policy if that can be imagined.

25. I 'm inclined to agree, dd...
The chimp doesn't like to be criticized and only surrounds himself with people who worship at his feet.

They dutifully laugh at his jokes and clap politely whenever he bungles a line.

Kerry know how to push his buttons now and it's going to be fun to watch.

28. endless God-talk

We're gonna get so much Phariseeism and false witness that Jesus is going to come down from Heaven and smack Dubya upside the head for taking His name in vain.

Mark Twain, ~1880: "If Jesus were living in this country today, there is one thing he would certainly not be: a Christian."
