1. the republicans were not being honest with themselves
if 80% of them think Bush won. Honestly I can't see how anybody honestly could say Bush won the debate. It was the most lopsided presidential debate I've ever seen.

2. How could they when they are never honest
The Republicans would declare victory regardless of the outcome. Out of curiosity, I tuned into Fox and a panel that included William Kristol and some other Weekly Standard writers without saying Bush lost did indicate Kerry was strong and his numbers would probably move up. I was shocked to here them acknowledge this. Then I had to turn the channel when they put Hannity and Karen Hughes on, who were sulking and trying to spin Kerry's argument and suck Bush's butt,

4. It's kinda strange
but Kerry actually did better beat Bush with a bigger margin among men, than he did among women.

Maybe, it was just the issues that the debate was about. Also, Kerry spoke in a very tough manner, which may not appeal as much to women. Also, Bush's appeal to emotion may have helped as well (like that story about the husband being killed).

6. Bush appealed for pity for "tough choices"; to be stereotypical, that
may have struck more men as whining. Sure struck me that way.

7. Let's not stereotype women as liking "emotional" appeals more than men do.

There's no evidence of that. And, even in this poll, a larger % of women than men thought that Kerry won. A larger proportion of men thought there was a tie--so does that mean that men liked the "emotional" appeal?
