What's worse: the Dean scream, the Gore sighs, or the bush meltdown?
Dean's Iowa speech was played about 900 times and the subject of never-ending talk in the corporate media. A few sighs by Al Gore probably cost him the election because of the hit put out on him by the media. I want to see round-the-clock discussion of bush's mannerisms tonight--the lunatic acted like he was ready to go over the edge the entire evening. It was a thousand times worse than Gore's sighs.

John Kerry, on the other hand, seemed like James Bond. He had his shit together tonight as much as any politician I've ever seen. He was a master who truly rose to the occasion.

2. The trouble is duration....
See, the thing is, Dean's 'scream' made for one amazingly fine "soundbite". A news station could play just it, or the whole lead up to it -- and Dean came across as sounding, well, crazy. (Nevermind the fact he was working the crowd, and what you see on TV is NOTHING like the kind of experience and energy you will feel in person. Then, a 'scream' can sound like a victory cry.)

Gore's sighs... again, almost sound-bite fodder.

The trouble with Bush is that there was no single "melt-down" moment for him. It was a long, drawn out process. He stumbled almost right out the gate, but it wasn't until the middle part of the debate that he really, really began looking bad. Or rather, I should say it was by then I realized, "My god, he really has blown this debate, hasn't he?"

He didn't make any of what I would call crash-and-burn gaffes, like his daddy did in looking at his watch twice during the 92 debates.

But overall, Shrub's performance will be very difficult to spin into anything even resembling 'victory' over Kerry.

Look for Repug spin in the days to come to be entirely along the lines of, "It was a draw." Seriously.

6. Joe Lockhart called Bush's 'Annoyed Smirk'
this year's Gore sigh. So all we need is a clip for each of his smirks and eye-rolls, then combine them all into one video.
